Thanks to Needlepoint for Fun's newsletter, I discovered this blog written by the Engligh embroiderer Sue Jones featuring a tutorial for replicating a Victorian fur stitch . It is from an 1887 publication called "Dictionary of Needlework" that has been republished by Dover. I don't think herringbone stitch is particularly easy to do but this would be fun to try if you need neat rows of fur.
