Because so many folks are interested in First Lady Barbara Bush's needlepoint, especially her large rug, I am making this posting about her stitching a tab.
We've all just learned that Mrs. Barbara Bush has died. I think the Spinster Stitcher says it best--

The famous needlepoint ornaments were featured on one of the White House Christmas trees in 1991's Needlepoint Christmas theme and I think some of the Nutcracker theme tree ornaments for 1990 were also needlepointed.

Here is a not particularly good photo of the tree that TNNA helped decorate. I don't know which year this was.

UPDATE: Elizabeth just visited the George HW Bush Museum on Texas A&M's campus and spotted these two purses stitched by Barbara Bush. She didn't see The Rug but as some of the comments said, it probably is in storage periodically to preserve it.
Here is a bit about the stockings Mrs. Bush created but there are no photos.
Mrs. Bush also created stockings for great-grandchildren she never met. Again, there are no photos.
UPDATE #2: Deborah Mix found pictures of three ornaments Mrs. Bush stitched for the 1991White House Christmas tree--a portrait of their dog Millie and two Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls.
