The Timeless Tiger is Traveling

Timeless Tiger from Leigh Designs' Imari Series

As you can probably tell from the change in the background, my Imari tiger piece is finished.  He is traveling to the Leigh Designs studio where he will be framed as a model. If you are a shop, you can visit him in Phoenix in January at the TNNA trade show if you stop by to tell Leigh and Robert hello.  I'm putting the finishing touches on the stitch guide right now, which is available from Leigh when your shop orders the canvas or you can get it directly from me if you aren't a shop.

He was a great deal of fun and at only six inches in diameter, he only took me about five weeks to finish, even though a lot of what I did in terms of needle felting was experimental.  I imagine if you stitch almost every day you could finish him in about a month.

Another View of The Tiger

Despite all the beading and the needle felting, the bulk of this classic design was done in basketweave, diagonal mosaic and brick stitches.    I wanted the tiger and flowers to look as if they were coming alive from a flat Japanese Imari plate so the majority of the design needed to be basic and flat to contrast well with the dimensional tiger and flowers.  Do you think I succeeded?

If tigers aren't your thing, check out the rest of the Imari series.  It comes in two sizes, both on 18 count canvas.

A rumor has reached me that Sandy Arthur will teach the Flaming Fowl at TNNA. If you aren't a shop owner going to the trade show, there are at least three other stitch guides available for these beauties.

Roar!

By the way....

By the way, since so many folks are posting about the EGA Seminar in Arizona, I thought I would move the article on this with all the links to a tab.  You'll see it above. Click there to keep up with what's going on in Phoenix.  Not everything posted is needlepoint, but I thought you would love to see the various classes and learn a bit about the shops and other things in the area.

I've also been busy adding to the Chilly Hollow Stitch Guides blog.  If you haven't visited that in a while, click on the magic carpet photo in the right hand column to be magically transported to the place where I collect all the stitch guide information I can find.  When you are done, ride the magic carpet back here again.

A Dark and Stormy Night UPDATED

It's finaly fall so Ruth Schmuff's mystery class for the season is Halloween-themed.  It's a haunted house!  You can still sign up for the class if you want.  Ruth is happy to help folks stitch their own spooky house any time they are in the mood.  I'll update this article with links as Ruth comes up with the right scary stuff to bring this to life.  You won't want to miss each spooky update....

Online Animated Stitch Diagrams

It's been a while since I've mentioned StitchGuild.com, the home of over 150 animated stitch diagrams. Personally I find it a bit hard to navigate but that doesn't mean it isn't wonderful, just that I don't understand how to move around it well.  It has nice touches like the ability to search for stitches according to coverage, complexity or how fast they work up.  This is unique as far as I know.

Anyone who prefers to see a stitch in action instead of looking at numbered (or unnumbered) diagrams should bookmark Stitch Guild.  Everyone else should bookmark it, too--it's invaluable.

By the way, I maintain a list of stitch and thread information resources at the bottom of Blog. You'll have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to find the links, though.  Let me know if you find any dead links, please.  I haven't had the time to personally check everything in several years.
