Amy's Pearls

The September newsletter for Amy's Golden Strand is available now. In it Amy's going nuts over pearls. Big ones, little ones, ovals, pinks, creams, any sort of pearl you can imagine.  She even touches on the historic pearls that Henry VIII and his contemporaries owned.  You can even see Anne Boleyn's favorite necklace.

I have to admit I am wild over SJ Designs' beads myself (not to mention their great customer service) and own some lovely pink and peach pearls in little boxes, just waiting for the perfect canvas....

By the way, Amy talks about other things in the newsletter, mostly new products.  They are already listed on her shop website to make shopping easier.

Needle Painting Cyber Class

Tanja Berlin's monthly newsletter is out. In it she mentions her needle painting cyber class for The Pansy is open for registration. I didn't realize Tanja did cyberclasses. This is a nice introduction to the needle painting technique which she is a master of.

By the way, each month Tanja puts one of her kits on sale.  This month it is her lovely Goldwork Lion.  Pricing is in Canadian dollars.  Her kits have very complete instructions, by the way.  I have her Field Mouse kit and re-read the instructions before I start any needle painting project.

Stitch Variation and Mutations

Original 1997 Edition

Fans of Ann Strite-Kurz will be thrilled to hear that her 1997 booklet Stitch Variations and Mutations has been updated and rereleased.   The original was only forty-five pages with a black and white cover (above) while the expanded 2013 edition has eighty-five pages in a loose leaf edition perfect for popping in a notebook for handy browsing.

I am lucky enough to own the original version but since it has nearly doubled in size, I probably will invest in the updated edition as well.  If you are hesitant, check out Ann's column in Needlepoint Now magazine to see her play with, expand and recreate various patterns for needlepoint canvas.  If you like her columns, you will love this book!

Thinking About Color

Color is one of the things I know least about when it comes to stitching, so I found Sue Dulle's discussion of the various color wheel systems and a listing of her favorite color books invaluable.  I hope you do as well.
