Sandy Arthur's third Shapes book, "Corners, Hexagons, Ovals and Parallelograms," is now available!

The first two Shapes books are available on iTunes but not the third, at least not yet. (I just checked.) New Needlepoint quotes the Needle Pointer's review which explains how this book differs from the first two. If your local shop doesn't stock books or you don't have a local, you can pick it up from Marianne's online bookstore.

There Will Be Cake!
Labels:

I just saw this on Facebook:
"Needlepoints West is having an anniversary celebration this Saturday! Forty years in business & my 8th year as owner! There will be discounts up to 50% off! And there will be cake! Come by between 10am - 4pm!"
The shop is in Los Angeles so fight the traffic and celebrate!

Ideas and Trends
Labels:

Mid-Century Modern,

threads
I gather ideas from all over the Internet for my stitching. Sometimes they are practical--like this article Mary Corbet wrote about how some thread types work well with others and how some thread types are not right for certain stitches or effects. (Personally, I love wool for bullions but I've never looked at my finished bullions under a microscope!)
http://www.needlenthread.com/2012/07/wool-thread-silk-thread-good.html
Sometimes they are more abstract--like this Janet Perry article about how dimensional (or 3-D) needlepoint is a great way to stitch pieces you can finish and use in your home.
http://www.nuts-about-needlepoint.com/3-d-needlepoint-is-it-a-trend/
Speaking of trends, want to be trendy? Here's a fun shoe embellishment idea. (Thanks for the link, Kreinik!)

Want to be retro? How about these Mid-Century modern chairs with NP backs?

Regardless of the practicality of the ideas above, they show how important the Internet is to the spread of stitching ideas across the World of Needlepoint.

Need Magnification?
Labels:
handicapped,

magnifiers
None of us are getting any younger, aren't we? More fabulous maybe, but our eyes might need a little assistance now and then. BeStitched recommends this light/magnifier they sell. They've included tips that pertain to any light/magnifier combination, too.

If your eye problems are much more serious, then this magnifier is worth knowing about. My beloved godfather suffered from Macular Degeneration, a horrible disease that destroys the vision in the center of your eye. If you or anyone you know has eye problems, follow the link for more information.
