Needleart Legends Charms and Magnets for Sale

The Embroiders Guild of America (EGA) will hold their 2014 Seminar in Phoenix, AZ. The local EGA chapter is doing a fund raiser to help with Seminar expenses. Tisha at Needlepoint Tool Time tells us all about the charms and magnets they are selling to honor stitching legends.   If you are a fan of Chottie Alderson, Jacqueline Enthoven, Margaret Fleming, Carol Algie Higginbotham, Jean Hilton, or Gay Ann Rogers, you'll want to see these.

I did a little research and found better photos of each legend's design ("Print Color Flyer") and an order form ("Print Sales Order Form") on the Pacific Southwest Region's chapter website.  The patterns are clever and come in either a charm or magnet style, your choice. You can also order the entire set of six if you prefer.

The magnets are meant to be refrigerator magnets but you can use them as a magnet on your needlepoint canvas to hold your needles if you add a second magnet to the back of your ground fabric.

This is a very clever way to raise money for the EGA Seminar and honors some of the most influential stitchers of our age.

Miniature Needlepoint

One of my cousins and her husband loved building dollhouses. The last time I counted they had seven full dollhouses and several "rooms" which are tiny scenes of a small area like a shop or a fruit and vegetable stand. I even stitched a rug and a fire screen for them, using patterns and colors from the wall paper of one of their houses. It was great fun but there are challenges to stitching and finishing something that has to be the same scale as everything else in a miniature house.

If you are curious about miniature needlework or just want to see something different, Janet Granger's new catalogue is ready for viewing.  Her pieces are accessible (the rugs are usually stitched on 18 count canvas while the smaller pieces like her charming cottage-shaped tea cozy is on 32 count silk gauze) and the kits reasonable.

For me the best part of her site are the online tutorials.  Not only can you learn how to do needlepoint, there are instructions for assembling rugs, pillows, needlework stands, and more.  She also tells you how to stitch on silk gauze.

If the miniature world has grabbed your attention, or if you wonder what the fuss is all about, here's a place to see some magnificent miniature settings by Ray Whitledge.  To see more, click on Portfolio and explore.
