I own a bunka brush. I don't use it often, but very occasionally it comes in really handy. Needlepoint.com has done a short video about using a bunka brush to create a fuzzy texture.

The spines are rather soft, not as stiff as something like a copper brush used to clean rust from metal. And the bunka brush itself is smaller than you would think. But it works very well.
