Dating a Berlin Woolwork Sampler

Hands Across the Sea Samplers has a short but interesting article on dating Berlin Woolwork samplers on their blog. Unfortunately, Berlin woodwork that covers the entire surface can't be dated by looking at the underlying canvas unless you can see the back side, but it's still an interesting article about Berlin woodwork from a sampler collector's perspective. Using the common motifs that they outlined will help you at least put an estimate of the date your find was worked, assuming it is a British piece or perhaps American.
