Beer and Cookie

This weekend I made Nancy's Tudor Dog (Schnauzer) up into an ornament. Cookie is in the photo above. Isn't she pretty? You probably can't see the subtle pink and blue overdye color in the metallic threads but it adds a great deal to the delicate look of her clothing. She's a handsome dog!

There are two more pet guardian angels on the way to me. Kandace Merric has designed two new angels, one for the 20th Century and one for the 21st. I can't wait to see them!

While I wait I'm still stitching beer bottles. I've started adding other fibers to the metallics I started with. See the yellow bottle on the top row? Its label is stitched in yellow silk so that it looks a bit duller than the glass bottle. I've also added vertical and horizontal straight stitches across the tent stitches on some bottles, like the big black and blue bottle to the right of the yellow bottle. It has tent stitches in medium blue metallic topped by long horizontal stitches in navy blue metallic. Since I used only two plies of my Bijoux and Accentuate, the painted area shows a bit, giving this bottle some real depth. See the glass sitting on the bar near the dog's paw? I stitched that with long stitches in Water n Ice (the original clear color). Does it look like glass to you?

More later. I want to get back to South Seas Fiji.

Jane, these really look like bottles to me. I am so impressed with the diversity you've given them. Excellent job!

On the other hand, if I saw that dog at the bar, I'd have to think it's time to go home now ;)

Beer and cookie. Sounds like Cookie Monster is on an interesting diet...

I hope to be able to view this Cape Cod Dogs canvas in person when it is finished. I'm sure the camera is not doing it justice.

Cookie looks great! The bottles are too, and I really like the diagonal "stripes" as well. I think the Water N Ice does look like glass!

Denise's comment reminds me of a funny story. My husband put the car in a ditch trying to avoid what he thought was a dog running in front of the car several years ago (it was a fox--he saw it well after he went into the ditch because the fox looked back to see what the fuss was). Our neighbor Dickie Boy remarked that he saw an alligator cross the road once coming back from the VFW, implying that he had drunk too many dollar beers there.

I'm glad that everyone likes the liquor bottles. Donna's right--it looks better in person.

I think Pat's right--the square thing on the third shelf from the top is a photograph.

I think Nancy's dog is beautiful. Your comment about the photo on the third shelf made me have alook at the original ans it seems to be a postcard! You have given me a wonderful idea about using metallics for the bottles. I inherited a tapestry of a painting and there is a bottle of oil on the window sill.

A postcard? I hadn't thought of that! Marj thinks it might be the first dollar the bar took in framed.

It is very small, so I am not sure what I can turn it into to make it visible, though.

Jane - you have completed my Cookie beautifully. Thank you so much. Blue was Cookie's color.

I'm with Marj - that definitely looks like the first dollar the bar took in. Better save it, unlike today's dollar, it was probably worth something.

Nancy, you crack me up.

The blue trim around the Cookie angel was deliberate. I remembered you said blue was the real Cookie's color and I think it makes the ornament look quite nice. Glad you noticed and approve!

Hi Jane, I can't tell from the picture. is the background stitched that color or is it colored canvas, left unstitched?

I am curious. BTW, it looks good.

and congrats on plowing through the beer border. sometimes it is all we can do to stitch, stitch, stitch on with fortitude so we can get to the fun to stitch parts.
