Breaking News: Labors of Love Needlepoint Shop Moving UPDATED

Mark just announced that the Labors of Love shop in Atlanta is moving a short distance away this summer, probably late July/early August, 2026.  The new location is close to the current shop but is double the space.  They will have to close for a couple of days to move everything and unpack, but this will give them room for more threads, classes, canvases--and fun!

UPDATE:  Finishing and special orders won't be impacted by The Move.

Melita Visits Shops and Lives to Tell the Tale

Melita Glavin's on the road again, stopping by various shops on the way.  Her first stop is The Needlepoint Clubhouse in Rock Hill, Missouri.

Then Melisa moseyed on over to The Sign of the Arrow in Ladue, Missouri.  They donate their profits to charity and are known for their huge stock of belt canvases.  Melita should have gotten that Brenda Hart book (her books are the ones I use most) but not to worry--they do mail order!

Ai and Needlepoint

Pop Needle Arts has some advice on using ChatGPT to learn needlepoint-JUST DON'T.

There are much better resources available online.  All you have to do is look around here and you can find more information than you'll ever need, even if you don't know other needlepointers, have a needlepoint shop nearby, or have much to spend on long distance kits and/or classes.

Speaking of Ai, it is telling people that Stitchers Garden in Napierville, Illinois is now closed to in-store shopping.  WRONG!  It is actually a shop in Brentwood, Tennessee with the same name that is closing.  So don't trust Ai.  Or at least be very very specific.  (There's a Stitchers Garden in Arkansas, too.)  Add the shop city and state at the very least if you are asking Ai about a shop's hours.  All Ai does is search the Internet for nouns and verbs.  Once it gets a hit, it stops and spits out an answer.  As you can see, the answer was wrong because the searchers weren't specific enough.  After all, Ai is not that bright.  We have to think for it.

By the way, here's Stitchers Garden in Illinios in case you want to wave at them (or do a little shopping--we don't judge).

Mimi's Needlepoint

The holidays are over and the Winter Doldrums have set in, so what do we do?  We head over to the new shop in Dallas--Mimi's Needlepoint!  I hope it's open by the time this publishes.  If not, post a note on their door telling them you can't wait!  (And you can always shop online.)

Besides being shop owners, the two Mimis design.  You can have a gander at their canvases here-

If you need a Getaway Car or Disco Pumpkin, this is the place!

A New Shop Trend

Stitches and Style has been traveling a lot this summer, visiting quite a few needlepoint shops, and has seen a new trend in two of them--free boxes!

Basically, customers leave threads from their stash in a box marked Free in the shop.  These are threads they have not used (or only used a bit of) that other folks might like to try out.  So if your favorite shop wants to climb on the bandwagon, see what cards or skeins of threads you have -- or perhaps a pair of scissors you've never used, a packet of needles that you bought and found were duplicates of 74 other packets at home-- maybe it will make another stitcher very happy to use what you don't use.

Visiting The Sign of The Arrow

Mary Corbet is on the road and --being a better person than me-- she allowed just 22 minutes to find and explore Sign of the Arrow in St. Louis, Missouri.

In case you aren't on the road like Mary, you can visit Sign of the Arrow's website.  By the way, this shop is unique in their yearly shop exclusive kit is available either as a painted canvas or a counted thread chart.

The smallest amount of time I've ever spent in a needlepoint shop is 60 minutes.  And I felt quite rushed!

Visiting Threads Too Needlepoint

Melita's latest road trip included a visit to Threads Too Needlepoint in Fair Haven, New Jersey.

It sounds like a fun visit, although I wouldn't have been able to resist buying threads whether I had a project for them or not!  If you are curious, you can do a virtual road trip to Threads Too via their website. Don't miss the Sale section.  There are some good bargains there.

Exciting news!  Needlepoint in Paradise in Naples, Florida has a new owner!  It's Suzie Vallerie, whom we know as the owner of Enriched Stitch in Connecticut as well as the owner of the Amanda Lawford and VNG lines of canvases.  Congratulations, Suzie.

Rita's Got Hit!

This little video is a sad one.

At least Rita's got their stock back.  Hopefully shop owners are sharing details about the thief so they can watch them when they appear in a shop.  I know NP Nation-member shop owners shared info about a shoplifter who was stealing from a great many shops several years ago and gradually put her out of business.

If you are browsing a shop and notice something, say something right then.  Small businesses can't take last if this happens.
