Reproduction sampler fans will have heard of Gentle Art's Sampler Threads, a six ply floss dyed in the faded colors we associate with old samplers. This article talks about the company and how their overdyes are created. It's quite interesting, even if you don't have access to Gentle Art threads.

Here is the company website if you want to explore a little. I've used their overdyed flosses several times. The colors are muted but otherwise the floss is quite similar to using DMC or Anchor cotton flosses.
