Do You Remember Erma Bombeck?

Back in the day when newspapers were read by everybody, certain humor columnists were wildly popular. After all, who doesn't love a laugh? Erma Bombeck specialized at laugher generated by everyday life, making us smile and occasionally think at the same time. Pepita found one of her old 1974 columns you have to read!

Here's the direct link to the newspaper article, just in case Pepita's link breaks.  If you look at the other articles, you'll see mention of the classic Battle of the Sexes tennis match that paired champion Billie Jean King against Bobby Riggs and the death of needlepointer Mary Martin's husband, not to mention O.J. Simpson's full name and nude photos of Jacqueline Kennedy and her second husband.  Some things change, some never do.  We are lucky that needlepoint obsession is eternal!

Hmm, does it show my age that everything you mentioned, I remember experiencing first-hand?!

Not at all! I remember it all from first-hand experience, too! We were just before our time!

One of my favorites was (while discussing road trips with her family, "My children have kidneys the size of lentils."
