The Kids Get It

Blue Dogwood pointed out this Wall Street Journal article about younger people doing needlework and other crafts as a way to de-stress away from screens.

Yeah, the kids get it.

A Condo Full of Needlepoint

The Louisville, KY newspaper just posted about a condo in a Louisville suburb owned by an interior designer/needlepointer couple which is full of needlepoint pillows, ornaments and more.

There are plenty of photos of the various rooms, all decorated with stitching, photographs, prints, antiques and more.  Because the photos were taken in December, the place is decorated for Christmas which means lots of needlepoint.

Enjoy the tour!

The Elegant Needle

I didn't know there was a needlepoint shop in Baton Rouge, Louisana until I read this article.

I loved watching the videos of the shop and a series of ornaments!

The Elegant Needle website has a bit more about the shop and its history with a slide show of the shop interior at the bottom.

And Elissa's husband got Kreinik into the fly tying business.

In Stitches: A Shop Profile

This online newspaper has a profile of In Stitches, which is very near Woodlawn Plantation in the Alexandria/Mount Vernon area of D.C.

It's a great shop, with both knitting, counted embroidery charts and needlepoint, plus a great collection of tools and Mill Hill beads and findings, and lots of threads to explore.

The Needlework Alternative to Smart Phones

We have yet another news article about millennials finding needlepoint a relief after technology overload.  It has a cute video about taking up needlepoint and a nice slide show of projects, though, and talks about the approaches shops are taking to appeal to younger customers and win over new converts.

Yet Another Writer Discovers Needlepoint

Thanks to Melissa Shirley (who alerted Facebook to this), we can read yet another article about needlepoint making a comeback.
https://www.flowerpowerwithjill.com/needlepoint-makes-a-comeback-and-its-a-whole-new-ballgame/?sfns=mo&fbclid=IwAR2seQwek9gd2Q-YXse-i5jWeum1R6rF0ZG7okAId6e-kg4LWlM0A564itY

I'm not sure I agree with the author that needlepoint should be meditative.  I often find it so but the world of needlepoint is wildly diverse in both the stitcher and the design he or she chooses.  And I like it that way.

Visiting Judy's Stitchery Nook: The Video

The local news just profiled Judy's Stitchery Nook in Harlington, Texas and the local Tip of Texas EGA chapter.  They had Catherine Jordan come in and teach them a map class, too!

Here's Catherine's website so you can see other maps she has done.  Explore a bit. She does amazing work, much of which I've had the pleasure of seeing on display at Woodlawn,  and some is for sale.

Ruth Miller's Tapestry Portraits

This Biloxi newspaper profiles the amazing embroidery portraits of Ruth Miller, who has been honored by the State of Mississippi's Arts Commission for her creations.
