The Needlepoint Book by Jo Ippolito Christensen is THE classic encyclopedia of needlepoint. I bought the 1976 version and read it cover to cover more than once until I gave my copy to a stitching neighbor when the 1999 edition came out. I thumb through the newer version quite a bit when I have a problem or just need inspiration. It covers everything and has a huge number of wonderful stitches diagrammed for your stitching pleasure. This is the main book I relied on when teaching myself to needlepoint.
There is a 2014 edition planned for this fall, but stitching bibliophiles will want to grab autographed copies of the 1999 version while Ridgewood has them in stock.
