Spiders and Webs and Color Magic

Belleza with Her Spider and Spider Web
If you have been keeping up with Sheena's stitching of Pocito, you will have seen she added a spider to her piece.  If you haven't seen her spider, you can take a look here.

My Belleza has a spider painted on her chin and a spider web on her right cheek, so I thought I'd stitch those as well so you could have Arachnids Everywhere.  The chin spider was easy and quick and looks quite nice, if you are a Day of the Dead skeleton, that is.  But the spider web gave me fits!

Can you see the spider web?  No?  I can't either!  The silver threads just disappear.  I am going to have to rip out the part of the web I have stitched and use another color.  What you see on the left side are all the threads I laid out to see what shows up well.  I like the pastel pinks and blues and violets, but they disappear on the white background just like the silver thread does. I'd really prefer navy but it won't work with the other colors on her face.   I finally choose the boring black thread as it will both show up and work well with the colorful tattoos on her head.  Oh, well, there will be plenty of color on Belleza in other places and a spider needs to be able to find their web.

Is there a glow in the dark thread in black?

Would a deep dark purple work (instead of navy or black)?

A deep purple might work but the background is purple and it would have to be the right shade to look good with that. I don't have any really dark purple thin metallic threads anyway. I am not close to a shop so I work from my stash unless I really need something I don't have or run out of a thread I'm using that is perfect for what I'm doing. It's a good thought, though. Thanks, Pinc.

She's looking fabulous Jane, love what you've done so far. For the web I once used a #4 Kreinik in a grey-ish silver. I can look in my stash to find out the number if you want me to.

Palma, I have decided to use black, removed the silver spider web and replaced it already. Thanks, though. I appreciate the thought and I'll keep that idea in the back of my mind for the next time when silver isn't dark enough.

I'm so glad for the update on Pocito. She's heading for needlepoint legendary status! I am disappointed that the photo wouldn't enlarge for me, so the details remain elusive. Is it just me?

I liked the barely there quality of the spider's web. It was subtle and didn't compete with her headress and tattoos.

Unfortunately it wasn't subtle--it was INVISIBLE, hence the change to black. Much more visible but not as dark as you would think since the thread is very thin.

Blogger seems to have changed their photo handling so pictures don't get as big. However, I have to admit I didn't post a really good photo as there will be a stitch guide for this. Don't want to give away all my secrets just yet!

Wow! Love it!

Well then I imagine seeing it in the posted photo. Is that just the paint shadowing through?

Can't wait to see the finished web, and I am really curious about what you have planned for the design on her face. This piece is looking great so far.

Plans? ROFLMAO Ok, Peggi, I have ideas, but plans? No, I'm going on instinct for Belleza's face. But Janet wants to do flowers and leaves next so we're off to that section.

Karen, in the photo above you see some of the spider web stitched with silver lame. It is barely visible after I highly enhanced the photo to make it easier to see. It is there, but very difficult to find in real life, so it had to come out. I wanted a web that was visible.

I'm glad you like her, Pat. Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Next time I'll do an overall portrait so you can see my progress (or lack thereof).
