Where to Dispose of Excess Stash

Several folks have asked for information on places to either donate or sell items from your stash you no longer want.

Donations:
ANG's Yahoo Group has contact information for the Ohio Women's Prison and the Pine Ridge Reservation, both of which accept stitching items, in a file labeled "Donation Places" on their Yahoo Group site.  If you don't belong, email me and I'll copy the information for you.

ANG's Auction Chairman will be thrilled to have donations of items that can be auctioned off to support ANG's educational programs.

I know some guilds have White Elephant sales, with donations of unwanted stash being sold to raise funds for local programs.  See if your local chapter has such a program or would be interested in your organizing one.  Some chapters do a yearly sale or exchange instead of a fund raiser.

Sales:
Canvases Be Gone sells unwanted items for stitchers.

The Stitching Destashing Blog helps stitchers dispose of excess stash.

Stitch in Peace is a company that sells excess stash for stitchers on eBay.  Of course you can always set up an eBay account and sell items for yourself.  UPDATE:  Two Blog readers have commented that they have not been paid for items they sent to Stitch in Peace that were sold.  Buyer beware!

I have no business relationship with any of the above (although the owners of Canvases Be Gone and Stitching Destashing are friends of mine) and I have stitched many items for the ANG Auction.

Hi Jane, I really enjoy your blog and have never commented before but today I felt I had to. I wish you would not recommend Stitch in Peace as they have not been honest with me. I sent 3 boxes of items to them over a year ago. Barb, the owner, has never paid me after confirming they did list and sell these items on Ebay. She has ignored numerous emails and snail mails that were sent registered mail. I have gone through this with her for 18 months now (she always has an excuse abougt a new bookeeper, or records, and now is just ignoring me). I have just had to accept that she cheated me and will not respond. I have no recourse at this point. Just wanted to warn everyone, do not do business with Stitch in Peace. Thank you, Solomae Stoycoff

Thanks for letting us know about your bad experience with Stitch in Peace, Solomae. I've not heard of any bad experiences with them before, so I am glad you spoke up. I hope everyone who decides to work with them knows they do it at their own risk.

I too am having problems from receiving complete payment from Stitch in Peace. Ebay needs to shut down the seller. Barb still owes me from items auctioned in May 2010.

I too had problems getting payment from Stitch in Peace. After much nagging I finally did receive the payment. I would not use her again though.

I also had problems getting paid by Stitch in Peace. They finally paid me after I sent them a PayPal invoice for what they owed me. I see now from googling that a lot of people have had this problem.

Thanks, Fae. It does sound like they are not reliable. I updated the article above to reflect all the complaints about them that folks have posted here or emailed me privately about. Hopefully that will help warn people off.

Fireside Stitchery has an eBay resale service now. I have no relationship with the company, just a satisfied customer.

Thanks, Pixie. I really need to update this article as there is a new eBay selling service advertising in NP Now, too.

I've also found a new eBay seller, Lisa Fisher of Hodgepodge Stuff. She used to work for Stitch in Peace, taking the pictures and writing the listings, and she does a great job of it. She also has had her own eBay business for a long time, and she's expanding it to yarn and needlepoint items. She's currently listing the second box of yarn I sent to her. She's very reliable, paid me very quickly after the auctions ended, and communicates well. You can contact her at info@hodgepodgestuff.com.
