Notecards from Judy Soulitis UPDATED

The late Judy Soulitis' family is using the Stitching Destashing blog to sell Judy's stock of notecards based on her designs. I thought fans of silk and metal embroidery, not to mention Judy's fan club, would like to know about this opportunity to treasure a tiny bit of Judy's work.

UPDATE:  Pat, who runs the Stitching Destashing blog, tells me she'll be putting a select few of Judy's smaller kits up for sale on eBay shortly.  Watch for eBay seller needleartnut.

Stitching Destashing

Friday is always sale day at the Stitching Destashing Blog. Disclaimer: Pat is selling three canvases of mine, but there are lots of fun things available that didn't come from my stash. The prices are great and perhaps something there belongs to your stash?  Time to go see!

Where to Dispose of Excess Stash

Several folks have asked for information on places to either donate or sell items from your stash you no longer want.

Donations:
ANG's Yahoo Group has contact information for the Ohio Women's Prison and the Pine Ridge Reservation, both of which accept stitching items, in a file labeled "Donation Places" on their Yahoo Group site.  If you don't belong, email me and I'll copy the information for you.

ANG's Auction Chairman will be thrilled to have donations of items that can be auctioned off to support ANG's educational programs.
http://www.needlepoint.org/Auction/2011/index.php

I know some guilds have White Elephant sales, with donations of unwanted stash being sold to raise funds for local programs.  See if your local chapter has such a program or would be interested in your organizing one.  Some chapters do a yearly sale or exchange instead of a fund raiser.

Sales:
Canvases Be Gone sells unwanted items for stitchers.

The Stitching Destashing Blog helps stitchers dispose of excess stash.
http://stitchingdestashing.blogspot.com/

Stitch in Peace is a company that sells excess stash for stitchers on eBay.  Of course you can always set up an eBay account and sell items for yourself.  UPDATE:  Two Blog readers have commented that they have not been paid for items they sent to Stitch in Peace that were sold.  Buyer beware!
http://stores.ebay.com/Stitch-In-Peace?_rdc=1

I have no business relationship with any of the above (although the owners of Canvases Be Gone and Stitching Destashing are friends of mine) and I have stitched many items for the ANG Auction.

Christmas and More

Because this is the Christmas season and Christmas is a religious holiday for us Christians, I wanted to post the link to Mary Corbet's article comparing two bishop mitres, both embroidered but created at least a hundred years apart.  We forget about the history of our craft sometimes and that decades from now, someone will be looking at various versions of As You Like It's Nordic Santa piece that was so popular several years back and thinking the same thoughts as Mary.  So tuck a note about the piece you are stitching inside the frame or pillow so that years from now, folks will know a bit about you and the piece you worked on for so long!

(Here's Nordic Santa if you missed it.)

In other Christmas news, Kathy's set up her Christmas tree using the German style of real lit candles.  Then she embroidered one.  If you need a little Christmas spirit, pull out some spare canvas and stitch your own tree, particularly if you aren't putting one up this year.

Are you looking for the perfect gift?  Consider Kreinik's fly tying thread assortment or take advantage of the free laptop sleeve pattern to stitch up one for your favorite computer lover.

Know someone who wants to learn to tat?  The Stitching Destashing blog has a wonderful array of tatting items for sale at a very good price.  Do a little browsing and you'll enjoy seeing other stitching bargains.

Wonderful Things

I've been collecting wonderful things to share with you again.  The first is the photo above--a new canvas by Barbara Bergsten.  Saving the planet suddenly got very very important to me!
http://createneedlepoint.typepad.com/create_needlepoint/2010/11/needlepoint-sayings.html

The Stitching Destashing Blog has a great Maggie canvas for sale (including a stitch guide) for a fabulous price.  She Was So Bad, They Sent Her to Catholic School has always cracked me up!
http://stitchingdestashing.blogspot.com/2010/11/she-was-so-bad-they-sent-her-to.html

If that's not your cup of tea, click on the header at the top of the page to go to the full blog and browse for wonderful things.

Are you a fan of the discontinued Medici wool?  Janet Perry knows where you can buy more.

Bristly Thistle is having a Rebecca Wood trunk show.  The little slide show shows off some of the fabulous Christmas canvases that Rebecca creates.  It's too late for this year but at 20% off, you can get started in January on next year's decorations.

Finally, I stumbled across a mention of Stitcher's Workshop, which seems to be a cross stitch group with links to shops that cater to all the counted thread person's needs.  I have no idea how well this works or how nice it is but here's the link for you to explore.

No Beads & Basketweave Today

I'm sure by now you are very tired of photos of beads and basketweave on Luna's gown.  It takes a lot of work to look good!  But getting there makes for boring blog entries.   Let's go look at some other fabulous things, shall we?

French Knot has their latest newsletter out and in it they mention all the fabulous Halloween pieces on their website that come with stitch guides.  I've added a brief article about this on the CH Stitch Guides blog.  With Halloween in our rear window, now's the time to start on next year's fun.  Luna's going to need friends, after all!  (Do vampires have friends?)
http://chstitchguides.blogspot.com/2010/11/french-knot-does-halloween.html

LizArt has two new charts available.  You can see them (and the link to the purchase site) here.
http://lizartblog.blogspot.com/2010/11/new-designs-on-website.html

Personally, I am holding out for Liz Morrow's newest piece, Vegas Nights.  The chart for it isn't ready yet as she just finished stitching it, but I think it is worth waiting for!   Hurry Liz.
http://lizartblog.blogspot.com/2010/10/vegas-nights-finished.html

Lots of folks are interested in finding a sorority- or fraternity-themed painted canvas.  Betsy B's got you covered.  Pocket Full of Stitches shows off some of the avaialble pieces on their website.  There are some new charts in stock there, too.  See?  I don't totally ignore the counted canvaswork lovers!

http://pocketfullofstitches.blogspot.com/2010/10/chart-books-and-betsy-b.html

Finally, I have something beautiful and inspirational for you to see--the NeedleArtNut's Lacquered Leaves piece (designer, Betty Chen Louis) which is magnificent.  If you want to watch this unfold, click on "Lacquered Leaves" in the right hand column and work from the bottom up.  It's worth following. Betty Chen Louis is a fabulously creative designer.  It's not often I see things I've never seen before on the Internet but this is one of those times.  Great work, Pat!

http://needleartnut.blogspot.com/2010/10/better-photo.html

NeedleArtNut also runs the Stitching Destashing Blog.  She happens to have some great books for sale at very good prices, including a copy of Pageant of Pattern for $6 plus shipping.  Move fast, though.  She had two copies for sale last night....

Stars: Filling in the Trellis and Placing the Boxes and Triangles

I got more done on Deborah Kerr's block last night than I thought I would.  I layered two more trellises on top of the original black one, using a slightly lighter thread and a different color each time.  The end result is raised and puffy, like jewelry almost.  It's a cool effect I'd like to use sometime on a canvas.

Then I started putting in the corner boxes so I'd see where the triangles should go.  The boxes have layers upon layers but the triangles are pretty straightforward, so I might have both done tonight.  I've certainly skipped around a lot on this block, doing things out of the order Tony recommends, just to help me get everything right.  So far, so good.

In other news, Thistle Threads mentioned using some of their great embroidery photos to make name tags, luggage tags and smart phone cases.  Isn't that a great idea?

In stash related news, the Stitching-Destashing Blog has lots of new items for sale at very good prices.   Instructions for buying are at the very top of the blog in case you see something you want.
