Stash Sales Tutorial

SuDu has written a fun article about how she sells stash online.  I've seen more interest in stash sales sites since the summer started since the shops are having problems stocking items because of the pandemic.  The canvas painting companies are taking 5-6 months to ship an order, and shops are having trouble getting threads at times.  All this makes it a good time to sell the stash you'll never stitch.

I think if you have a bunch of things you'd like to sell now, or if you plan to sell quite a bit over the next year or so, her tips will really help you.

Cookie Cutter Ornaments Reduce Stash --- Or Do They?

Suzanne is trying to reduce her stash of threads by making ornaments using her cookie cutters to outline shapes which she'll fill with various patterns and colors.  She says it doesn't always turn out that she has enough threads, but what the heck!  It's still fun.

Mary Agnes of Needle Nicely is doing the same thing, except I don't know how she got her outline.  She is created a series of stars for a garland for the shop, using any threads at hand to fill the star shapes.

Another Stash Seller

There's a new eBay stash seller in town. Well, she's been around a while but since she just started advertising in Needlepoint Now, I just found out about her.  She doesn't list her eBay name so I don't know if I've been watching her selling or not.  I have not used her so proceed with caution.

Where to Dispose of Excess Stash

Several folks have asked for information on places to either donate or sell items from your stash you no longer want.

Donations:
ANG's Yahoo Group has contact information for the Ohio Women's Prison and the Pine Ridge Reservation, both of which accept stitching items, in a file labeled "Donation Places" on their Yahoo Group site.  If you don't belong, email me and I'll copy the information for you.

ANG's Auction Chairman will be thrilled to have donations of items that can be auctioned off to support ANG's educational programs.

I know some guilds have White Elephant sales, with donations of unwanted stash being sold to raise funds for local programs.  See if your local chapter has such a program or would be interested in your organizing one.  Some chapters do a yearly sale or exchange instead of a fund raiser.

Behind the Scenes

I haven't done anything more on finishing the wizard as a standup this week. I really need more time than I have after work to stuff the piece, wrap the rocks in some quilt batting and put that in the bottom, then stitch the base in place. I am still thinking about whether to continue the beaded edge on the base in the front or not. I guess I'll make up my mind when I see how everything looks assembled. So there won't be a progress report until Saturday or Sunday on the final touches on Joan Thomasson's wizard.

That's not to say I haven't been busy with my next painted canvas or planning my ANG Auction project, but I'm not ready to reveal those yet. While you wait, how about you take a look at this new website? It sells off stash for stitchers who have taken a look at their pile and decided they'll never live long enough to stitch That. If the person running this is who I think it is, this is a very reputable way to turn the pieces you'll never stitch into stash cash.

The selection of items for sale changes. In the week I've been watching this, some things have disappeared and others appeared. It's a fun bookmark to browse looking for bargains, even if you aren't ready to part with anything right now.
