Take the 2016 TNNA Survey

Recently TNNA asked if I would publicize a survey they do of the needle arts every three years. Of course I said yes! After all, we want to know who we are as a group, right? Their press release is below.

The survey closes February 15, 2016!

********************************************

CALLING ALL FIBER ARTISTS! The fiber arts community needs your feedback.

Please take ten minutes to complete the TNNA Fiber Arts 2016 Survey, a major study of U.S. knitters, crocheters, needlepointers, cross-stitchers, weavers, and spinners.  The survey is here--
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/fiberarts16nn

By taking this survey you will…

- Help fiber arts organizations and businesses serve you better

- Tell retailers and brands what you want

- Explore your fiber arts life

- Get the chance to win one of five $100 fiber arts store gift cards

This survey is anonymous - you will not receive marketing spam.

The results of this survey will appear in the fifth edition of the TNNA State of Specialty NeedleArts Study.

The survey results will be available to non-profit fiber arts advocacy groups and TNNA members in mid-2016. TNNA is an association of hundreds of independent and family-owned fiber arts brands and retailers.

If you don't want to read the last survey yourself, here's my take on what it said.  Thanks for helping TNNA and the shops and wholesalers it represents!

The Youngest Canvas Designer Award

Get out your Christmas money, search the couch for change, and warm up the credit cards! Pepita has a candidate for the Youngest Needlepoint Designer Award.

The design is terrific.  Pepita doesn't have to wonder who will take over the business someday.

Trend Spotting: Sheena's Elves

Sheena James of Sheena's Sweet Stitches noticed another trend that totally escaped me among the huge number of new canvases debuting at the TNNA Winter 2016 show in San Diego--elves!

Mary Engelbreit

Like everyone else, I was charmed by this elf and birds canvas from Mary Engelbreit.  This is distributed by Painted Pony, by the way.

Santa's Workshop Set, from Danji
A lot of shops noticed Danji's Santa's Workshop set, which naturally has elves!  Here are slightly larger photos of the boy and girl elf unstitched--

Danji Elves Up Close

Cute, aren''t they?  Alice Peterson also has elves.  Sheena found these although I don't see them on the Alice Peterson website yet.

Alice Peterson's Elves
The best part of the elves from Alice Peterson and Dani is that they appear to be rather small.  They will make a quick, fun stitch!

Patience Brewster/Kate Dickerson "Vixen's Painter Elf"

Kate Dickerson's elves are larger and more elaborate.  Don't you just love his paintbrush and oversized hat!  The elf above is from Patience Brewster's art, licensed by Kate for needlepoint canvas.  You can see more of Patience's whimsical pieces, some of whom are elves, at the Kate Dickerson website.

The Elf from Labors of Love

After Sheena alerted me to the new elf invasion, I found another myself.  This little chubby guy is from Labors of Love.  Love his peppermint stick striped background!

Jan  has designed two Christmas stockings she'll be stitching for family members in 2016.  If you are familiar with Jan's work designing Iranian or Moroccan-style rugs as Thread Medley, you will certainly want to follow her as she works on these, Heck, regardless, you'll want to bookmark her blog so you can watch her create Moroccan Christmas stockings.
