The Kreinik blog announced yesterday that Jerry Kreinik (who with his wife Estelle founded the Kreinik Company) was very very ill.

The Kreiniks just posted on their Facebook account that their father has died. I hope he knew how much his metallics mean to stitchers, especially those of us who remember the time when needlepoint meant only wool.
UPDATE: A brief profile of Mr. Kreinik on the company blog.

Hi Jane,
Although I never met Mr. Kreinik, I am please to keep his memory going as I use his products every today. Tonight's tribute thread is Kreinik size 8 026V. Thanks, Mr. Kreinik for giving our needlepoint a wonderful sparkle.
I'm sure his family appreciates your tribute, Robin. We all owe a lot to them, especially us threadaholics!
Thanks for the link to Mr. Kreinik's profile. What an interesting man! He led a full, long life and we will all remember him daily as we use Kreinik threads.
Gosh, there seem to be a lot of embroiderer-type people dying at the moment!
That's very sad. Where would we be without Jerry Kreinik's work/products.
Where indeed?! Mr. Kreinik not only opened the door to new and exotic threads, he showed it was a viable business, thus tempting others to start thread companies. Very influential guy. Our stitching life is much richer thanks to him and his wife.
