Watson, the Great Pyrenees
I've had several folks ask me how the new puppy Watson is getting along.

He's 18 months old now and HUGE, but he is still very much a puppy in his behavior. In my experience, large dogs mature slower than small ones.

He got a new toy yesterday, a stuffed alligator with a squeaker inside.  Watson LOVES new toys.

Suki Without a Toy
Suki is seven years old and although she likes having a new toy (hers is a bear), she doesn't play with them much.  Mostly she just puts them on her dog bed and lays down on them.

Watson Loves His New Toy
I put the dog toys away in the toy box last night and sealed the lid. This morning I found the alligator in the living room.  Watson knows how to open the lid of the Rubbermaid box where his toys live.

HELP ME!
Watson obviously wanted to play with Alligator this morning.

Watson is a honey and obviously very smart! He probably drives Suki crazy! I just ordered some of the Gloriana silk chenille in white. I have several Santa beards in my future. I'll let you know how it is!

Suki seems very easy with him. She lets him take her toys (and she takes his) and they play together a lot. She is more relaxed now that we have Watson. I think she's the big sister type and enjoys having a baby to play with and boss around. But if he bothers her when she wants to take a nap, she puts him in his place. They are wonderful companions and good keeping varmints away (Watson the four legged kind, Suki the two legged).

I am eager to hear how you like Gloriana's new silk chenille. I've got it on my list of Wanted items for the next trek to the shops but that will be a while still. Hope you like it a lot!

Glad you like the photos, Palma. I have to admit the alligator is in more danger from Suki who likes disemboweling her toys than Watson, who just carries them around and tosses them all over the living room/kitchen/lower deck. Of course that's probably not fun for Alligator either!

It is okay if the alligator is harmed. Some of us are NOT gator fans and have a motto: My favorite team is (fill in the blank) and anyone else who plays against the gators! Of course this would work for anyone's favorite team and their rivals.

Jane, I love your photos, captions, and commentary. It is so wonderful to have pets! We have two little dogs (a Yorkie and a Yo-Miki (half Yorkie and half Miki)) that love to disembowel their toys. I like to go to Tractor Supply, which has an assortment of stuffed toys that make noises. The chimp screams like a chimp, the bird chirps, and there are several that sing a "Doodle dee, doodle dum" song. We have to take the toys and put them on top of the dresser or refrigerator so that the Yorkie, in particular, will get some rest. He's gotten to the point of panting very hard and getting tired, but he won't stop. When hubby puts the toy up on the dresser, he starts eyeing furniture nearby or looking to see if any of the drawers are cracked so that he can scale the heights and get it back.

Thanks!

Goldy, I had to laugh at your tale of the dog who won't stop playing. That's a Yorkie for you. I'll have to check for dog toys at Tractor Supply Company. There's one in Winchester where I buy Retriever brand peanut butter cookies that our two love.

Anon, I'm not a gator fan in real life either. But I do feel sorry for Watson's gator who looks so appealing and cute and squeaks a protest when Watson gets too rough.

Jane, I know that Tractor Supply in Winchester well. It's on my way to visit a friend in Wardensville, and it's also on our preferred route to my in-laws in WV. It's on Rt 7 right before Rt 81.

That's the one. There's a TSC in Leesburg, too, but it is 45 minutes east instead of 30 minutes west. But don't go to Winchester this weekend--Apple Blossom Festival starts today.

LOL! My sister's dog eats all the eyes off toys! Watson is a charmer!

That's funny, Pat. I haven't forgotten a cat rules the roost at your castle, by the way.

Barbara, you know that GPs bark a lot. They bark at anything and everything. Our first GP barked at the school bus and airplanes (I have to admit that we never were bothered by either while Dave was with us). Watson barks at squirrels, deer, birds, blowing leaves, traffic, airplanes, insects, anything that is new, and any sound. He is a barking fool! Right now he is barking a lot at the singing birds who are nesting all around us and at the toads who are outside in the yard at night, trying to catch dinner. I'll pet Watson for you, but you are better off having a dog that doesn't bark. That's why we have an Akita. Suki almost never barks. When she does, it is a real threat like a stranger in the yard.
