Breaking News: Kathryn Molineux Wilson Has Died UPDATED

Small Peacock from Shorebird Studio

Jill at The Needlepointer just reported on Facebook that Katie Molineux Wilson of Shorebird Studio died December 26, 2014. We have lost a great talent and a very nice person, to boot.  If you aren't familiar with her work, here is the Shorebird Studio website.

Above is Katie's Small Peacock, the only piece of hers I've stitched.  It was a gorgeous piece of art and graces our house now.  I feel lucky to have been able to stitch this.

I'm sorry to hear this. She painted beautiful birds & animals; I have 2 of her older, small cat designs (one of which I have 2 of). The peacock is stunning.

So sad! Do you know what happens in this sort of situation? Will someone perhaps buy the rights to the designs and continue the line?

It depends. Some designers (Loretta Spears, MCM) refuse to let their designs live on after them. Some families are willing to sell the rights or they continue to publish the charts afterwards (Gennie Morrow). Some heirs cannot agree (Ann Spiess Mills). We won't know for a while what will happen. It depends on Katie's own wishes and what her family wants to do.

That is a shame - of all the pieces I decided to complete, hers was one of them & was the one I decided to focus on first in 2015. I have been stitching on it for the last 3 days. Melita

You are very lucky to have one of her canvases, Melita. I hope you'll share photos once you get into it!

Thank you for letting us know, Grant. Her fans are going to be thrilled! Her work is classic and I am so happy you are making it available even though you--and we--have lost Kathryn.
