The Mary Rose was Henry VIII's favorite ship. Sadly, she sank in 1545.
The wreck was discovered in 1971 and raised in 1982. Guess what they found onboard? Thimbles!
The thimbles were used to mend sails and perhaps clothing as well. It's fascinating to think how much we stitchers have in common with the Tudor sailors.
