Dorothy Lesher Alert (Shining Needle Society)

The Shining Needle Society has announced that Dorothy Lesher will teach two small dragons for their online stitching program. You can see the two small dragons and read the class information here.  Just remember that you can register for Dorothy's class until March 31st.  After that, you've missed out!  Mark your calendars, ok?  Dorothy's class pieces are always popular and not available unless you take her class except occasionally on eBay.

The class is offered through a Yahoo Group called Shining Needle Society (SNS).  They offer many, many classes and signing up as a member is free.  You will automatically get any new cyberclass information and Kate who runs SNS is always helpful if you are computer challenged.

A Dragon's Coming to Tea at SBCANG

Dorothy Lesher's "Dragon's Tea Party"

Since I have a friend who is wild for Dorothy Lesher's designs and they are available only in her classes (unless you get lucky with someone selling their kit on eBay), I thought I'd mention that one of Dorothy's dragon pieces is going to be taught at the San Bernardino chapter of ANG in early May.  This one is called The Dragon's Tea Party.  The design is shown above.

SBCANG's website has details of the class and mentions that "ghosts" are allowed.  Ghosts are people who can't be in the three day class but who will be sent the class instructions and materials in the mail so they can still take the class from Dorothy.  Not every teacher allows ghosts since not all class materials are complete enough to do the class without the teacher being present, but Dorothy's lessons are very complete.  Anyone can recreate the dragon tea party, from the floral painted teapot to choosing the colors for your little girl's hair to dressing a dragon in a rainbow of pastel colors.  You will pay the kit fee plus once the chapter knows how many folks will be attending, each person will pay a bit towards Dorothy's travel expenses.  All you have to do is be a member of the chapter which welcomes long distance members.  You can read about the class here and also join the chapter if you are interested.  Just follow the links.

The Snowbird (with Magi)

Now that the trauma of snow before Halloween has receded a bit, I can send Blog readers over to see a finished Dorothy Lesher class piece called Snowbird. It's GORGEOUS! First, Pat has posted a finished photo.

By coincidence, Just String is posting photographs of Dorothy's The Magi as she works it.  This particular entry is very interesting because Dorothy told her students to use ink to create a shadow on the Ultrasuede.  Fascinating tip!  If you want to see more, click on the Just String title and read the postings on the first and the previous page that show her progress creating this piece.

Sadly, Dorothy doesn't have a website but if you look for ANG and EGA Seminar classes she's taught or check what she plans to teach at Callaway or at the Shining Needle Society, you might be able to find a class you can take from her.
