Piper Silk: The Movie

Want to learn a bit about the UK's Piper Silk?  The UK embroiderer Helen Stevens has done a nice video about how she uses it in her naturalistic designs.

Here is the Piper 90 denier silk floss she uses.

And here's the 2/20 silk, also known as Helen's whisker thread.  LOL

Here's Helen's website so you can explore her stitching and books.

News from the World of Needlepoint (and NJNA)

The December newsletter from NJ Needle Artists' chapter of ANG is a fun one.

You can learn about ANG's fund raiser, their putting all the issues of Needle Pointers magazine starting in the 1980s online (members only, sorry), and there's even a link to an article by Ellen Johnson of Serendipity Needleworks about the various types of scissors for needlepoint.

Fun one!

How to Make Consistent Bows

Mary Corbet has just posted a nice tutorial on making consistent smallish bows.

Mary's bow is about an inch and a half wide but I think you could make a smaller one for your needlepoint.  Just do a little practicing first.

UPDATE:  The Wool and The Floss has a cute video about making bows, too.

More Breaking News: November 2023 Pumpkin Patch Retirement

Sharon Wollman of Wollman Designs just announced she is planning to retire in November, 2023.

Sharon is the creator of the fabulous needlepoint pumpkins (and acorns) that recycle vintage needlepoint into one of a kind display items.  She's giving plenty of notice, so if you are a fan or have always wanted one of her creations, be sure you purchase something before Sharon puts her pumpkin patch to rest.

Stitching Santa's Beard: The Tutorial

Alexandra, aka The Millennial Needlepointer, has posted a tutorial video on her Instagram account that explains how she used packed stem stitch (which she jokingly calls Bourbon Stitch) for Santa's beard.

Packed Stem Stitch is simply stem stitches crammed together.  Here is how the Santa stocking looks finished.
