It's winter in Chilly Hollow, a time to snuggle up at home in front of a roaring fire and read about how needlepoint pillows decorate our homes throughout history. Here is a bit about the current design trends and how they incorporate needlepoint, courtesy of Architectural Digest. "Charm and elegance…" not to mention needlepoint, "never go out of style."

Old House Online has a complimentary article about historical trends and the right textiles to pull off a period look. Naturally we need needlepoint pillows for this!

Creating a Hat Using Mini Sparkles for Padding (The Movie)

BeStitched's latest video tutorial shows you how to make a padded hat using Mini Sparkles for padding. Sparkles and Mini Sparkles —which are the same tubular mesh as regular Sparkles but smaller in diameter— are distributed by Sundance Needlepoint. I never would have thought to use either thread as a padding under a hat! Very clever.

If you aren't familiar with Sparkles in either size, here are the colors and two sizes. There is also something called Matte Sparkles now, which doesn't have a metallic woven in.

Sandy Arthur has announced that she is going to provide free instructions for her A-Z Sampler design starting this month on her blog. I'll update this article with her instructions, tips, and each of the 26 items when they are released. Since ANG's Stitch of the Month program is no longer available to anyone except dues-paying members, this is a lovely substitute.
Here is the background:
