Here's a great big thank you to both Melissa Shirley and Bonnie, who graciously took time out of very busy schedules to talk about stitching butterfly purse canvases. I hope you enjoy the canvas of the month feature, especially this month when we have such a lovely design series to talk about!

What a wonderful surprise this morning to read the postings from Melissa Shirley, Bonnie and Jane. The Chilly Hollow readers are so lucky!
Glad you enjoyed the surprise, Robin. I am lucky that there are so many talented stitchers (including yourself) who are happy to contribute to Blog.
Jane,
I never realised that the world of needlepoint was so vast until I started visiting chilly hollow. I had plans to attempt needlepoint, but now Iam at a loss...where do I start? ...whew!!!

Thank you Jane, this was so great. For me, choosing stitches is always the most difficult thing when starting a new canvas. Your two guests made it look so easy and both their choices are stellar.
I really enjoy the canvas of the day feature; it's a great tool especially if I am unable to get into enough stash enhancing trouble on my own. :) Thank you O-Royal-Enabler!
Deepa, this is a topic worthy of a long article, but I'll post you towards the American Needlepoint Guild website. I think your embroidery skills are terrific so what you need are some projects to get started with. ANG has many many stitch of the month things for you to play with. Go to this area which has diagrams of many many NP stitches. There are 11 stitches presented each year, then in December (usually, but the trend now is to present the outline in January and you fill it in throughout the year to reveal the project) there is a project using the stitches. I think this is a good place to start getting comfortable with new stitches.

ANG also has a Kid's section of easy projects, most with outlined designs you transfer to your needlepoint canvas.

Of course it is easy to show charted or outlined NP on the Internet, but I will be starting a brand new small painted canvas project later this week. How about I talk about how I go about it in more detail then? Until then, read what Janet Perry says about choosing threads and stitches for painted canvases here.
