Kurdy Briggs at Woodlawn 2011

Cleopatra's Eyes by Threedles
I've already mentioned how much I liked the two original geometric pieces that Kurdy Briggs displayed at Woodlawn this year.  Turns out she is a designer of counted canvaswork and the piece I liked best (Cleopatra's Eyes) will be available as a chart shortly.  The photo above is as close in color as I can get it to the very sophisticated color scheme of the original blue ribbon winner.  The photo came from Scarlet Thread's interview with Kurdy.

Here is her website.  She produces various colorways of her designs, which is a nice touch, but let me tell you, the original of Cleopatra's Eyes is the one for me!  Here you can see a good photo of her other piece on display at Woodlawn through March 31--Looking Glass, which is pastels on black in the original I saw.

You should have seen me taking that picture yesterday. Very funny. Standing on my two-step ladder, a few feet away from the piece, trying to compensate for the less-than-optimal lighting that is standard in Woodlawn, trying not to move. I do have a better photo of this that Kurdy sent me; I just wanted to show the piece in situ, as it were, with its little ribbon. When we get the pattern, I'll use that one for sure.

I'm glad you took the photo with the ribbon, SL. It is a great memento for Kurdy herself. I color adjusted your photo and cropped out the ribbon so as not to distract from the wonder of the design. It's a lovely pattern in really terrific colors that I never ever would have thought to combine. Very nice work and worthy of a ribbon in my opinion.

I agree - this is one of the most beautiful counted pieces I've ever seen. Are you planning on stitching it after Stars is completed?

Peggi, I'd like to stitch Cleopatra's Eyes one day, but not right after Stars. I need a smaller counted piece after the months and months of working the very complex Stars!
