I like to stitch my backgrounds first, or nearly first, when I work on a painted canvas. I think they are so important that I like to have them out of the way so that the rest of the canvas rests lightly on what stitches and threads I've chosen. Many of the backgrounds are tent stitched but many aren't, even though there isn't much background behind the Santas to work with. Diana's a genius, isn't she?

This is a great "library" of ideas for any small pieces - thanks!
Perhaps it's just me, or just the Southern Hemisphere, but I can't access Thefrenchknot at all. Pity - I'm going to be needing backgrounds quite soon, and my inspiration is wearing thin. So I'll just keep trying!
Keep trying. I got in with no problems this morning but I am quite a few hours behind you and French Knot is an hour behind me. Perhaps they do maintenance in the middle of the night their time.
