New Santas from Petei

Everyone who has stitched for a few years is familiar with Petei's Santas.  They are small, charming, and fun to stitch.  Petei has finally released new Santas--they are ornament sized portraits.  Here are the ones I've seen:
African Round

Iceland Round

Mongolian Round

Netherlands Round

Scandinavian Round

Irish Round

If you haven't seen the Petei Santas that Diana Bosworth stitched, here's the link.  Her guides are still available from The French Knot as far as I know.

These and all of Petei's other designs are available from Painted Pony.

The Display Challenge

Needlepoint For Fun Shows Off

Needlepoint for Fun just posted this image of a stitched piece they found at a local store and display in their powder room.  I grabbed the photo for those who can't view Facebook images.
https://www.facebook.com/125313707511380/photos/a.157371940972223.28096.125313707511380/1611108428931893/?type=3&theater

The shop challenges folks to post photos of their needlework on display, particularly if it is in an unusual or striking place.  Here is my entry—

Petei's Flying Angel

This is my Petei "Flying Angel" shown in my laundry room.  It's the only place in the house dark enough to take a photo of the lights that surround the angel.

Lights on!

Finishing by West Coast Finishing.  They did a superb job.  Ok, your turn.  Post your own unusual or striking setting for your needlepoint on Facebook, your blog, or send me a photo and I'll post it here.

Petei Introduces New Characters

For the first time in a very long time, Petei has added new characters to her line of book people. Painted Pony is introducing a dozen characters from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice to Petei's fans.
https://debbieppd.wordpress.com/2017/01/18/pride-and-prejudice/

These all come with stitch guides by Susan Burris and can be ordered by Painted Pony which is Petei's distributor.  Kudos to Painted Pony for talking Petei into coming out of retirement for our stitching pleasure!

The Petei Show

Stephanie is treating us to a show of Petei characters, mostly Santas. Are they not FAB?!!
http://stephsstitching.blogspot.com/2015/12/petei-extravaganza.html

If you are in love with these --and who isn't?!-- The French Knot in Texas has a huge array of the Santas, most with a stitch guide from Diana Bosworth.
http://www.thefrenchknot.com/x-petei.htm

Of course if you like doing your own thing, check with your favorite shop.  Most have a nice little stock of Petei characters.  Or you can browse Painted Pony's website (they distribute Petei) and choose the canvas or the set that amuses you most, then ask your shop to order for you.

A Beard for Christmas

This time of the year all the great holiday ornaments folks have displayed will tempt us to purchase a Santa canvas to stitch for the 2016 holidays.  Then we are faced with the task of coming up with a great beard stitch. One of the beard masters is Janet Zigler Casey, who teaches a very popular line of holiday ornaments.  I thought you'd like to see all her beards.  Click on each thumbnail portrait to get a better look.
http://www.jzcdesigns.com/christmas.htm

If you stitch a lot of Santa Clauses and don't already own Diana Bosworth's little booklet Beards I Have Known, put it on your Christmas wish list.  It is full of great ideas for stitches and threads to make fabulous beards.

Finishing Friday: How Does She Find the Time?!

Stephanie shows off KH's  finishing --check out the Bargello tomato!-- and then tells us KH has a family and a full time job.  I think I might hate KH, when I'm not admiring her work, that is.

My Magnificent Flying Angel

Petei's Flying Angel

Here is my Petei Flying Angel, straight from the magic fingers at West Coast Finishing.

The Finishing is Superb
I wish you could see the details in person.  The pedestal with its stars matching the angel's star garland is terrific, the red bow cute as a bug, and the trim perfect.  Both sides of the ornament are padded to add a little dimension.  She's wonderful!

She Has a Special Touch
To read the whole story of my flying angel, go here.

When you last saw her, she was hiding in a drawer, awaiting Finishing Magic.  Want to know how you know you have a great finisher?  The finisher makes your piece ten times better than it was before they worked on it.

You'll see how my Flying Angel turned out tomorrow.

Attention Nativity Fans

Nativity fans like me are going to be thrilled that Stephanie has posted photographs of a fellow SWAN member's finished Petei Nativity set. She stitched the entire set! It is cute as a bug and now that Petei's designs are available from Painted Pony, their new distributor, it is doable, too.

Blue Russian Inspiration: A Collection of Fur and Beards

When I knew I was going to be stitching the Blue Russian, I started collecting links to fur and Santa beards I liked.  I thought you might find them inspiring, too.   Stephanie has done some wonderful Russian Santas from Heartstrings, which are distributed by Artists Collection.
http://stephsstitching.blogspot.com/2013/12/russian-style-santas-from-kathy-schenkel.html

Stephanie has also posted great Santa photos from a variety of designers.  Some of these she has stitched, some are from her SWANs group and some are from her local shops.  They really illustrate the diversity of fur and beards we can create.
http://stephsstitching.blogspot.com/2013/12/santa-baby.html

I love Suzanne's polar bear stocking.  I think he might have been stitched using Fuzzy Stuff from Rainbow Gallery.
http://suzannehicks.blogspot.com/2013/12/happy-polar-bear.html

Summer has done some wonderful Santa ornaments, working from her stash threads.
http://summerlouise.blogspot.com/2013/12/two-melissa-shirley-ornaments-completed.html

Becki's Melissa Shirley Santa has a lovely beard and gorgeous fur trim.  The fur trim is Colonial knots in a variety of threads.
http://astheneedleturns.com/russian-santas-club/

Finally, wait'll you see Anne's traditional Medici beard!
http://thecapestitcher.blogspot.com/2013/12/a-wild-and-hairy-guy.html

I also referred to my copy of Beards I Have Known, which shows off the various beards Diana Bosworth has stitched for The French Knot in Texas.
http://www.pfos.com/SalePages/PocketFullofStitchesNeedlepointBooks.htm

It's a great little book but if you are not willing to spend money on a book you will only use occasionally, you can browse the photos of Diana's Peteis on the French Knot website.  I believe all the stitch guides for these creations are still available from the French Knot.
http://thefrenchknot.com/x-petei.htm

Hope you found all this as inspirational as I did!

Petei Contest

Stephanie has thrown down the gauntlet--whoever has the most Petei Santas wins!
http://stephsstitching.blogspot.com/2013/11/whoever-has-most-petei-santas-wins.html

I'm not even in the bottom ten as my few Petei canvases don't include any of the iconic Santa designs.  What about you?

I guess now that Painted Pony has picked up the Petei line we can start to assemble a collection, though.  Let's see, do I want Cleopatra or the Astronaut most...?

Anyone Heard of the Petei Stitch?

While browsing eBay yesterday I stumbled across a mention of "Petei Stitch" in this listing for a Heartstrings Santa and his Fat Cat.   ???
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Heartstrings-Decorating-Santa-Painted-Canvas-Full-Kit-/121194651907?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c37c3a103

I've never heard of Petei Stitch. I assume it is named in honor of the designer Petei (perhaps by the stitch guide writer Martha Johnson at Fancy Stitches?) but I don't know which stitch we are talking about here.  Can anyone solve this mystery?

If all else fails I'll email Fancy Stitches....

Breaking News: Petei is Back! UPDATED

Chapel Hill just posted this in their e-newsletter--

"Breaking News!! Painted Pony has just announced that they will be distributing Petei Needlepoint Designs. Petei's fans have missed their availability - Chapel Hill Needlepoint can now order from the Petei line! Designs will be introduced gradually with the initial catalog of approximately 30 Santas and other small ornaments available soon. Call to inquire about your favorites!"

UPDATE: I heard from Debbie Woodard, founder of Painted Pony via Facebook last night. Debbie was kind enough to update everyone with this--

"Since you have mentioned Petei santas on your blog, I thought you and your NP Nation followers would be interested in knowing I am distributing Petei's line beginning at the show this weekend. Because of the enormous volume of her line we will reintroduce in little lots over the next year. We are showing about thirty Santas, three snowmen, ten tiny "I love" mini-socs and most of her nativity set and her sorority hearts and socks at St. Charles. Expect first round production to take about 8 weeks...."

Thanks, Debbie, both for the update and for brining Petei canvases back to life!
