Whitman's Sampler Tins

Sampler fans have always enjoyed the candy tins from Whitman decorated in cross stitched sampler motifs. Some of these designs were originally stitched by an expert in crewel embroidery from Martha's Vineyard.   I talked to her in the late 1980s and yes, she was paid partly in cholocate!

Here is a bit about the sampler designs and the collection of samplers donated to the Philadelphia Museum of Art just before the company was sold to Russell Stover.

You are welcome. Hope I encourage lots of research (i.e., buying and eating Whitman's Samplers!) this month!
