In Honor of Ann Spiess Mills

In honor of the Ann Spiess Mills Exhibit and workshops in New Mexico in August, instead of posting Canvas of the Day items on Blog, I'm going to showcase a new Ann Spiess Mills canvas each day in August. Hope you enjoy the show!

What a great idea and I love the flower picture....what is it? A lily?

The blossom is on Beloved's cactus, which is roughly six feet tall and had eight flowers this year. The thing is at least 30 years old and probably nearer 50. It didn't bloom ever until we moved to CH and I started putting it outside in the summers. It loves the heat and humidity. These flowers bloom at night, one night only. By the morning when I find them open they are closing already. Whatever pollinates them doesn't live here. I've never had seed pods. But they are quite subtle and pretty. No scent, though.

Forgot, the flowers are 5-6 inches in diameter. I've never seen one fully open so they may be larger than that. BIG, in other words.
