Philly in Stitches

Rittenhouse, which is based in Philadelphia, has quite a few canvases that celebrate the city. If you are a history or movie buff, or just have a special place in your heart for the town, you will enjoy a little browse.

The American Needlepoint Guild's 2012 Seminar is going to be held in Philadelphia August 24-31. If you haven't drooled over the classes offered, here's a list.

Remember, there are plenty of drop in events like the bookstore, the exhibit, the Auction and more that anyone can visit, whether you have the time to register and take classes.

The area shops are getting ready to greet you and tempt you with all sorts of goodies to remember the event by.  Here is some of what Fireside Stitchery is going to do.

UPDATE:  Fireside is partnering with the makers of Mag Friends to have Philly-themed magnets for you to pick up as souvenirs at Seminar.

Fireside's website has all sorts of information for Seminar goers.

I've heard that Stitch Haus (which is about a 15 minute drive from Fireside) is a great place to shop, even though their website is uninspiring.  Better visit both while you can!

And of course you don't want to miss Nimble Needle!

Thread Essays

I've been seeing an interesting trend this winter--needlepoint teachers and designers are starting to post little essays online to help folks understand various topics, especially attaching beads to needlepoint canvas.   But before I give you links to those bead essays, here are Kathy Holman's thread thoughts, starting with her essays on novelty threads which tells you what size and type of thread will work on what size NP canvas using perle cotton and floss as size standards and tent stitches as the baseline for what will work in other types of stitches.
