Identi-pens for Coloring Canvas

The Wool and the Floss mentioned the Identi-pen set they sell for coloring sections of canvas if you want to change a color.   The markers have two ends, one a sharper marker and one a more blunt.  The shop sells them but they aren't on their website right now.  This is what you are looking for, however.  The label says they are waterproof when dry but not meant for fabric markers.

Pastel Pencil Shading

Susan Johnson of SJ Designs just posted an antique needlepoint piece for sale on her website, making special note of the pastel shading on the faces.

Both Melissa Shirley and Lisa at BeStitched Needlepoint do this on their stitching.

Lisa also uses fabric markers to shade silk ribbons.

It can be done.  I would not do it on pieces that need to be wet blocked but it's perfect for some situations.
