Christmas Nobuko Ball

Melita is planning to stitch this little ornament using all Nobuko stitch.

It looks pretty good with the Nobuko stitch directional changes.

It's done and made up into an ornament.

Chottie's Stitches Diagrammed

The Royal School of Needlework is continuing to expand their online Stitchbank with more stitch diagrams, this time three stitches created by our own Chottie Alderson.  The three stitches are Alisha Lace, Chottie's Plaid, and Nobuko Stitch, all with the names of real people included in them.

I didn't know Chottie came up with these stitches but her friends in San Bernardino Chapter of ANG will still remember her and all she achieved.  Thanks to them, the Royal School has these stitches for their collection.

Please consider making a donation to the Royal School's Stitchbank so more stitches will be available online for us all.

Mary Agnes of Needle Nicely in Vero Beach is collecting variations of Nobuko Stitch and making a sampler of them. You can see it here (click on the photo for a closer look).

If you know of other versions of Nobuko, could you let Mary Agnes know?   You can add a comment with a book and page number of where you found the variation or you can contact her via the shop.

Happy collecting, MA!

Keenan Versus Nobuko UPDATED

Needlepoint Now's e-newsletter, which is always full of a preview of the next issue of the magazine, also has a fun discussion of the difference between Keenan Stitch and Nobuko Stitch this month, from the fertile mind of Sandy Arthur.

Of course there is more!  Were you wow'd by the Day of the Dead Lady in BeStitched's class last year?  Then you'll want to see how it was done in the July-August 2014 issue of the magazine to be released shortly.

I'll let you read about the rest of the next issue yourself.  Have fun!

UPDATE:  If you don't subscribe, you'll want to peek at a few pages of the July issue posted by Ridgewood Needlepoint.  They may tempt you to pick up a copy.

Go Left? Go Right? Do Both?

The July 2014 shop newsletter from Bedecked and Beaddazzled is now online.   As usual it is full of upcoming classes but Ruth also includes a little essay on Nobuko stitch, which can be stitched slanting left or slanting right--or alternating direction.  Read how and when to use this stitch plus droll over the classes here.

By the way, sorry for the multiple postings of this entry. Today is the day Blogger hates me!

BeStitched Goes Nobuko

The latest video from BeStitched in Arizona shows how to do nobuko stitch.  They graph the stitch, show stitched examples and then stitch in front of the camera.  The one thing that is lacking is a diagram of how the next row interlocks with the previous but this is a stitch diagrammed a lot of places.  Use BeStitched's tip to stitch the diagram with an old needle using a copy of a diagram from one of your books and that should help a lot.

If you missed any of BeStitched's earlier videos, you can view any of them on their YouTube page.
