The Self Finishing Match Box

House of Cartonnage in Paris has a new product--the self finishing matchbox!

Tariffs are impacting the business (which sells boxes, clutches and classes on how to make your own box) somewhat so we'll have to see how Sabrine manages her unique business for those of us not in the Netherlands or the EU.

Playing Cards and Business Cards

Melita has created several self-finishing items for cards in 2024.  First, she stitched this Stitch and Zip case from Alice Peterson to hold a friend's business cards.

Then she stitched this charming Lee/Colonial Needle case to hold playing cards for her husband's magic tricks using a chart that looks like playing card suits.

Very clever use of self-finishing items!

Unique Self-Finishing for Halloween (Plus Glow-in-the-Dark Threads)

Lisa at Deux Bijoux Bijoux shows off a unique self-finishing frame for your Halloween stitching pleasure.

The kit (canvas, threads and frame) is available from The Scissorists.

By the way, Kreinik has a new glow-in-the-dark section about these threads they sell on their website.  This gives tips on use, how others make them glow (or glow longer), and explains why these threads often have a green cast.

You can also get a square version for a 4 - 4 1/4 inch square ornament.

These are only available at Stitch-Stash (above) or Emily's Stitchery.  Note that the shops are taking pre-orders--these should be in the shops by late September-early October.

Purses, Totes, Clutches and More

The April newsletter for NJNA has arrived and it is full of ANG class information, both at the local and national level.

The big focus of the newsletter is all the self-finishing purses, totes, clutches and bags that are available.  There's a size and style for nearly everyone, whether you just need room for a phone, your sunglasses and credit cards or you end up carrying not only all your stuff but your spouse's, too.

Of course the newsletter covers a slew of new designs that came out at the April trade show, even clubs.  Heads up!  A little bird tells me those Ellen Skidmore canvases that the Meredith Collection distributes are going to be unavailable soon as the license expires so shop now.

Something unusual is Moore Stitching's self-finishing compacts with designs to match.

Moore Stitching has pill boxes, too.

All in all, this is a fun issue to browse.

Boxes from Cabranmary Woods

Traditional Stitches in Canada is selling a nice looking box for self-finishing on their website.

The boxes are made by Cabranmary Woods and they are quite small, only 4 inches square with a 2 inch square space for your stitching.  They come in four different woods, so email the shop for your preference.
