Wicker Stitch for the Win

Poppy Monk Needlepoint's blog has chosen to highlight one of my favorite stitches for texture and backgrounds this month--wicker stitch.  You may know it as woven stitch.  It's a very pretty stitch and can be worked in all types of threads, from twisted perles to flat strands of silk.  It is especially beautiful in silk flosses if it is laid carefully but it makes a quick and easy background in perle cotton or crewel wool as well.

Woven Stitch: The Movie

Abigail Cecile has posted a video demonstating woven stitch on her Instagrm page.  She covers how to do the stitch, how to compensate it and how to shade using this stitch.

It's a thorough explanation of the stitch and well worth watching.

Breaking News: A New Book from Sandy Arthur!

There's a new little book from Sandy Arthur for her Pocket Book series!  It is called "Tisket, Tasket, Lots and Lots of Baskets."  It's 55 pages and full of woven stitches for baskets, plus stitches for rims and handles.

Sandy's other little books cover hair, beards and mustaches, stars, and leaves.  Those are available directly from her Etsy shop (link below) along with her Shapes series but the new book is being shipped to the shops exclusively for now.

Some of My Favorites

The newest Needlepoint for Fun newsletter talks about some of my favorite stitches—the woven stitch group of woven stitch, double woven and woven trellis variation.  All these are wonderful backgrounds for Asian-themed designs, among others.
