Tool Sale and High Cotton Colors Available

The Needlepoint Tool Time website is having a 20% off sale on all their stitching goodies that lasts until January 10.  So hurry over and see what you can find.

Needle Works' January 2011 newsletter is ready for viewing.  The standout for me is a photo display of the colors of High Cotton available.  I happen to really like this thread and was thrilled to finally see the colors available online.  There's class and monthly club news in the newsletter, too, and the shop announced they'll do a special edition newsletter with all the goodies from the TNNA January market shortly.

By the way, I can vouch for the excellent customer service at both websites.

Birds in Winter

October Edibles by Charley Harper
One of the delights of wintertime here in Chilly Hollow is the variety of birds who visit our bird feeder.   Birds are messy, though, and we've stopped putting out suet for the woodpeckers (we have 6 varieties living around us) because they like to peck at the house once they've eaten their fill.  Fortunately, Bristly Thistle has come to the rescue with a Charley Harper trunk show which brings a huge variety of Mr. Harper's bird canvases minus the mess to us for all of January.  The trunk show discount is twenty percent, so this is a good time to pick up a wonderful piece to delight you all winter.

By the way, Bristly Thistle has their belt and dog collar canvases on sale at half off right now.  I don't think this sale will last long so get moving if you need a belt or collar to keep you busy this winter.

Interested in Designing?

If you have ever thought about designing your own canvas, you will want to head over to Gay Ann Rogers' website and read her articles on her newest project, the Iron Wrought in Silk Sampler.  Here is the first article in the series.  GAR is very frank about the design problems she ran into while creating the sampler.  The solutions she came up with are fascinating reading.  I personally can't wait until she posts a technique column on how to fix ripped out stitches on congress cloth!

Introducing Flowers of Italy UPDATED

The American Needlepoint Guild's Stitch of the Month program, featuring Ro Pace's Flowers of Italy, has started.  January's information shows the layout and explains the types of threads you will need.  Many thanks to Yenulka for pointing out that the first installment was on the ANG website.

It looks likely to me that Ro's piece is named after one of the threads she used--Gloriana Silk's Flowers of Italy #194 which can be glimpsed here.

UPDATE:  Scarlet Thread has posted photos of the threads for the original colors Ro used and they will be doing thread kits in other colors as well.  I must say I'm tempted by Sara Leigh's colors she used in her Stars.  They are very very pretty!
