Gay Ann Answers Beginner Questions

Gay Ann Rogers is celebrating her imminent retirement from traveling to teach by posting beginner needlepointer's questions on her website.  Whether you mostly do counted canvaswork like Gay Ann's students do, or whether you are a painted canvas fan (or even an embroiderer), you will find her answers very enlightening.

Pay special heed to the answer to Question 21: "If no stitch guide is available, how do you decide which stitches to use?"
http://www.gayannrogers.com/site_2/Question_21.html

This is a question I have trouble formulating a good answer to but I am about to try.

UPDATE:  Gay Ann's website no longer has the above on display but you may be able to find it by Googling "Gay Ann Rogers choose stitches" and then clicking on the Cached link under the results.

Attention Stitchers!

Amy Bunger's newsletter is ready for viewing on her website.  As always there are lots of interesting new products to see, finishing stitching to admire, and this time you can see the new K's floor stand attachments which are of particular interest to those who want to work on very long or large pieces.

Orna Willis has come up with a great class concept for groups.  If your guild is running low on project ideas, you will want to check this out.  (And if you are into bangle bracelets, make sure you take a look at the project!)

Luna: Too Busy?

Cloak Lining
I've been stitching the cloak lining for Luna and run into a problem.  It's too busy!  Look at the pattern under her right arm.  It simply has too much movement for what needs to be textured but quiet.

Look at Either Side of Her Hair
So lately I've been searching for a replacement stitch.  I think this is the one but I'm not 100% satisfied....

It is very easy to fall in love with a stitch and not realize until you actually use it that it is not right for your current piece.  That's the situation I'm in.

Visiting John Johanssen at Home

Melissa Shirley Designs just posted a series of photographs of John Johannsen's art studio on their Facebook page.

Melissa licenses some of his art to reproduce on needlepoint canvas.  Until I saw his studio, I never really understood the painted canvases. WOW!

I hope those without a Facebook account can view the pages above, but believe me, it is worth signing up just to tour that studio.
