The Delights of Counted Canvaswork

If you don't understand the charms of counted canvaswork, read what Ruth has to say about the Counted Room in her shop.  Think about it--picking a background color and then threads for a lovely pattern, all in a space dedicated to counted designs.  What fun!

Ruth is charmed by one of Kurdy Bigg's designs, Cat's Eyes.  I saw the original Cleopatria colorways at Woodlawn last year and it is magnificent!  Ruth gives you the link to Threedle's website but I think the best place to see all the versions of this design (and others from Kurdy) is at Scarlet Thread.

I can feel the charm of this piece whispering to me but for now, I'm going to watch Needleartnut stitch it.  She likes the blue Venus version of this piece.  After all, I'll have to be able to count correctly to stitch this, which is always problematic for me.

SharonG Magic

Next Saturday, May 5, SharonG is going to teach a class at Nimble Needle which is just north of Philadelphia.  The class is full now but I thought you'd love to see some of SharonG's canvases that one of Nimble Needle's customers has stitched from Sharon's guides.  Yes, SharonG not only paints beautiful canvases, she stitches then and writes her own stitch guides.  There really ought to be a law against one person being so talented!

Sharon also has a wicked sense of humor, hence the horses asses canvases.  In person they are beautiful and delicate, but they are also quite funny. Stitch one in honor of your ex!

Nimble Needle will be bringing Sharon back to teach this year if at all possible, so keep an eye on their blog so you can sign up for the next class and stitch your own rear view of a pony.  (Here's a link to the other designs in the series.  The Christmas one is my favorite.  I might have to stitch it one day in honor of those idiots we have to see each holiday season.)

Look! A New Atlanta Shop!

Accoutrement Designs, the company behind Fob Friends and Mag Friends, just let us know there's a new shop in Atlanta-Atlanta Needlepoint and Monogramming.

Hurrah!  A new shop, wherever it may be, is always cause for celebration.  Here's their minimal website.  I'm hoping they have a great future in front of them.

Roger Garrett is Dead

Roger Garrett is the creator and manufacturer of the Stitchmate floor stand, sold under the Cozy Cottage name. These floor stands are favorites of several of my stitching friends, and they are very sorry to have lost Mr. Garrett to cancer at the young age of 64.

Here's a bit about the company. Their website is down now unfortunately.

Here's a nice series of photographs from last year of the Stitchmate.  It is beautiful, isn't it?

My condolences to his wife Victoria, and to his family and friends and of course to all my fellow stitchers who love the Stitchmate products.   Thanks for letting us know about this, Lenor.
