Needlepoint Now News

Dale at Canvases Be Gone brings us news of a change at Needlepoint Now magazine plus a controversy over the magazine's publishing the names of finishers.  Thanks for the update and the news and for your support for a magazine I enjoy very much!  Without Dale's posting I wouldn't' have known that folks were unhappy with the magazine, although of course I did know that many folks are not thrilled to have the magazine go from line drawn projects to publishing painted canvas stitch guides.

Wherever you stand on that topic (and even though I write stitch guides, I am sorry to see the magazine concentrating so much on counted thread and painted canvas designs since I love line drawn designs), Needlepoint Now is a much anticipated publication at my house.

Hi Jane

I have been a subscriber of Needlepoint Now since the begining. I have always loved the magazine and have recently had many conversations with other Needlepointers about the changes taking place. My LNS which is about a 90 mile drive is Queen Anne Stitches Needlepoint and we have discussed how much we like the guides and painted canvases since so many stitches do painted Canvases. We all sort of figured it was a help to many shops that are struggling to stay open. It always helps to have a guide and you can follow it or tweak it but the ideas help so much. I like line drawn as well but I think the magazine is progresing and being very timely. I am lucky since we have Heidi and Sherry Bray who does a great job at canvas enhancement and keeps your enthusiasm up and educating you at the same time. I think the magazine is trying to help the shops and the stitchers. Just my humble opinion.

I never thought of the emphasis on stitch guides that you have to buy the canvas for to fully utilize as an aid to the shops, but of course it is. I am sure they make more money selling painted canvases than they do blank canvas and threads. Thanks for mentioning this, Sue.
