Breaking News: Beth's Needlepoint Nook Has a New Owner

I received this note from Beth at Beth's Needlepoint Nook this morning. She writes:


My customer, my friends,

It is with sadness, trepidation, and excitement that I send you this email.

It is hard for me to believe that Beth's Needlepoint Nook will have been in business for 14 years this October. Many of you may remember that when I first opened I had no employees and one lonely spinner of fibers. How far we have come! We now have a national clientele as well as a few customers in other countries. Does anyone remember me talking about a club member who lives in Iran? The shop has brought multiple national teachers to Louisville and launched a very successful Stash for your Cash program.

The shop's success is, in a great part, due to you, my customers. Without you, I would have never made it this far.

Beth's Needlepoint Nook had its best year ever last year and it is on this high note that I have decided to retire. The time has come for me to do something different with my life. I am not sure what I will do, but I know that it is time for a change.

To that end, I sold the shop yesterday to Elizabeth Dieruf who, several years ago, expressed interest in owning the shop. I told her that when I was ready to sell it I would call her first. I called. She accepted. And the rest as they say is history.

I offered to work for her but she prefers independence. I support her decision. Please give her your support as well. The next time you see me I will once again be a customer just like you!

Thank you again for your support and all the wonderful memories we have made together. It is my greatest wish that the shop continues to thrive for many more years to come!

Horse Racing in Needlepoint

The Preakness was this weekend, and although I don't follow horse racing, there are plenty around me who do since there are so many large horse farms within 100 miles of Chilly Hollow.  There's even a small race track about twenty miles from us.  So it was no surprise that Ruth Schmuff over in Baltimore posted about horse racing and Maryland on her blog.

Paypal Sites UPDATED

Anyone who buys via the Internet a lot has run across mention of Paypal.  Paypal (now owned by eBay) is a way to pay for purchases without giving your credit card number to an online shop whose security you know nothing about.    You set up a Paypal account at https://www.paypal.com/ and give Paypal your credit card number and mailing address.  Then when you shop at a website that accepts Paypal, you simply click on the Pay via Paypal button, sign into your Paypal account, and authorize payment.  Paypal charges your credit card and sends the money to the online store without the online store ever seeing your credit card number.   A lot of eBay auctions now accept nothing but Paypal in payment and smaller shops are now adopting it as a payment method.  This system is only as secure as Paypal's security but I have a credit card with a $500 limit that I use as the only Paypal credit card to further limit damage to my bank account.  I've never had any problems with a Paypal sale, but I am not the trusting kind.

All this is a very long introduction to a list of needlepoint-related online shops that accept Paypal.  I thought it would be nice to keep such a list for those who like using Paypal and are looking for a shop to buy needlework supplies that uses the system.  This is a partial listing of just the places I know about, so help me out and either comment below or email me directly at chilly hollow at hot mail dot com with names of other online shops that take Paypal.  Thanks!

Shops Do Stash for Cash

The announcement of an entire Kelly Clark/Amy Bunger Halloweenies set for sale brought me a message from Beth at Beth's Needlepoint Nook in Kentucky. Beth tells me her shop offers a Stash for Cash program for folks who want to send excess stash items off to a new home.  She describes how it works thusly,  "My shop has been helping customers with that issue for the past year. We list items on ebay for people. The canvas owner receives 60% of the sale value in cash or 80% in store credit. We have sold over 650 items so far including new canvases, partially stitched canvases, new fibers, partially used skeins of fiber, findings, books, tools, etc.  The program has been successful in that my customers are happy and they love the 80% store credit. One customer has received over $2000 in store credit from ebay sales. If you think that this would be of interest to your blog followers, feel free to post this information. Source for Sequins

Some of us are lucky enough to have a shop nearby that stocks the sequins that are so popular these days, but many of us don't have that luxury.  You can always mail order, but if you are like me, you hate ordering sight-unseen.  Fortunately, Beth's Needlepoint Nook has come to the rescue with photos of the Sundance and The Collection sequins they stock.  The site will give you a general idea of the colors and prices available, and if you don't have a shop of your own, Beth's does mail order.
