NEIGHdlepoint UPDATED

Mike Cooper and Donna Eds are covering a horse statue with needlepoint for Lexington, KY's Horsemania 2022.

They need stitchers if you want to help.

Here is their brand new website with more information.

Donna's finished hers and it is darling!

UPDATE:  Mike gives us an update on the oldest stitcher working on jockey squares.

Sadly, they have all the stitchers they'll need at this point, but stay tuned to see how it turns out.

And here is one of the horses finished.

Here's another.

The horse is hanging out at the courthouse currently.

Here is the horse posing with some of its stitchers.

Another photo of the finished horse.

And it's up for auction!

Gasp!  The horse went for $8500.00!

The Equestrian Wreath

Horse Country Chic is horse-mad--and mad for needlepoint--so she was charmed by this equestrian-themed wreath covered in ornaments.

Its a lovely idea, whether you love bird ornaments, Christmas ones, ornaments for dogs and cats--whatever you love can go on an ornament for display all year.

For the Equestrian

If you ride, love horses, or just live in a horse-mad area like I do, you'll enjoy browsing the Horse Country Chic's current crop of horse needlepoint finds.

You might also enjoy Three Thimble Designs' horse items.

My Needlepoint Corner has a darling printed horse canvas that would be perfect in tent stitches using threads from your stash.

Froopy has a stylized horse in preppy colors that is great fun.

There are many beautiful horse canvases by more established designers but I thought maybe today I'd focus on new designers with things you might not have seen before.  Have fun browsing!

Horse Country Chic Loves Christmas Ornaments UPDATED

Horse Country Chic is in love with these Christmas ornaments.  Most are horse-themed but all are perfect for the elegant country house even if you don't ride.

UPDATE:  She's added a new series of ornaments, many brand new, and a recommendation to get yourself a copy of Mary Legallet's book.

UPDATE #2:  More!

Etsy Horse Needlepoint

Horse Country Chic loves horses and loves needlepoint, so naturally needlepoint with horses is a prime favorite for her.  She's using her free time to browse Etsy for good horse needlepoint and is sharing her finds.
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2020/04/more-great-etsy-needlepoint-bargains.html

Aren't horse mad?  How about dogs?  Cats?  Flowers?  Do a few searches for your favorites on Etsy? It's a good way to pass some free time and you might find a really fabulous design, perhaps even kitted out with threads, to give you or someone you love a way to keep hands busy when you are anxious.

The Horse Show Pillow

If you show horses, you'll love this story of a Meredith Collection design called "Horse Show" that Horse Country Chic turned into a wonderful pillow.
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2019/12/the-cutest-needlepoint-horse-pillow-ever.html

Heck, if you just live among horse farms like I do, you'll enjoy looking at this fun design and hearing how it was stitched.

Needlepoint Shadbelly Points

I had no idea what shadbelly points were as I don't ride horses.  Very interesting and very chic, too! The examples Horse Country Chic shows are all custom designs from Hingham Square Needlepoint.
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2017/04/needlepoint-shadbelly-points.html

If you are curious about shadbelly points, this site has lots of photos of their custom designs. None are needlepointed but it give you a good idea of what the needlepoint ones will be compared to.

Horse Hair for Whiskers

Heather just noticed this great idea on Etsy--use horse hair for whiskers! Don't have a horse handy? Not to worry--the Etsy store sells little packets of it.  There's enough for you and your entire stitching circle to do whiskers on their dog and cat ornaments.

Needlepoint for Horses UPDATED

I should have titled this "Needlepoint for Horse Lovers" but I couldn't help myself.  I love the idea of needlepoint stitched for a horse!  Regardless of my odd sense of humor, anyone who loves horses and horse frame will enjoy the pieces that Ann of Horse Country Chic found at Adornment Needlepoint in the charming town of Winston-Salem, NC.   And, yes, needlepoint IS chic!
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2014/10/new-needlepoint.html

If you fall in love, here is Adornment's website.
http://www.adornmentneedlepoint.com/Adornmentneedlepoint.com/Welcome.html

UPDATE:  More horse canvases, many from Susan Roberts, although the fox is from Maggie I believe.

Celebrating Chinese New Year

My Chinese New Year Dragon

It's Chinese New Year! I associate this holiday with fireworks. Check out Linda's stitched fireworks, which I think are by Kelly Clark.
http://splittheneedles.blogspot.com/2014/01/happy-new-year.html

Vicky celebrates the Year of the Horse in style.
http://mostlyneedlepoint.com/the-year-of-the-horse/

But of course it's those dragon parades I think of most when I think Chinese New Year.  Wonder if I'll have time to stitch myself that Leigh canvas above in 2014?

Ride AND Stitch

If you love riding horses, you'll have great fun looking at the selection of equestrian-themed canvases that Horse Country Chic found at a horse show. These were all brought by Po's Point which had a booth at the show.   If you need a little "gitty up" or "whoa" in your life, a horse in stitches might be the answer.
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2013/07/new-needlepoint.html

By the way, Needlepoint Shop.com has a wide range of equestrian and belt canvases, plus some wonderful tips on stitching belts.  A neighbor purchased belt canvases from this business several years ago and had them finished there, too, and was very happy with the end result.

Horse Racing in Needlepoint

The Preakness was this weekend, and although I don't follow horse racing, there are plenty around me who do since there are so many large horse farms within 100 miles of Chilly Hollow.  There's even a small race track about twenty miles from us.  So it was no surprise that Ruth Schmuff over in Baltimore posted about horse racing and Maryland on her blog.
http://www.notyourgrandmothersneedlepoint.com/2013/05/preakness-maryland-tradition.html

If Maryland isn't a state you want a souvenir of, how about a horse racing stand up set?  Beth's Needlepoint Nook has a really fun club to celebrate the Sport of Kings.  This is perfect for those who love jockeys and their rides and going to the races in their dreams.
http://bethsneedlepoint.com/Dot_ClubsExec.asp?idClubCategory=21

Kathy Schenkel has some darling mini socks that come with their own tiny stuffed horse.   If you have an aspiring rider in your family, these make wonderful presents.  Stitch the stocking, pop a little twenty dollar bill inside and secure by adding the little horse.  Surprise!

But if you just want a classic horse pillow, you can't go wrong with this beauty from HP Designs.

Navajo Needlepoint Horse Chairs

Orna Willis is always on the lookout for interesting and different needlepoint projects. She came up with photos of Navajo blankets and horse needlepoint chairs this morning. Neat!
http://ornadesign.blogspot.com/2013/03/creativity-is-my-first-love.html

These are from a Dallas boutique.  It's an interesting way to recycle blankets and older needlepoint for 21st Century homes.  Looks like they have been sold, however.

Canvases for the Hunt Set

Chilly Hollow isn't too far from the center of what is called Hunt Country here in Virginia. Think grand estates, horses, trees and exotic farm animals everywhere, stone fences that run for miles and of course, the extremely wealthy.  This area features fox hunting, horse tack, and of course dogs.  In my limited experience the folks who live Hunt Country are usually conservative needlepointers but there is nothing wrong with that.  Who doesn't love a nice belt in basketweave occasionally?  That's the best meditation I know.

The Three Days of Christmas

Want to see some great Christmas stitching? Linda B. has the Three Days of Christmas. Next year there will be more!
http://splittheneedles.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-three-days-of-christmas.html

Suzanne shows off her Christmas present stitching, half of which is holiday-themed.
http://suzannehicks.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-gift-of-giving-needlepoint.html

If you ever wanted a needlepoint bag with horses, this is for you! The theme isn't holiday-related but if I found **this** under my tree, I would be pretty happy!
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2012/11/heavenly-horse-handbag-needlepoint-of.html

Casey has a wonderful Christmas acorn, complete with cardinal.  This is from Melissa Shirley and it is terrific.

Rugs for the Hunt Country

If you live over the mountain from me among the horse farms, you will want to stitch rugs like these.  They are lovely, traditional works of art.

Look at the Horsey!

When we traveled us kids tried to spot horses along the road we were driving. My White Horse! was a yell we would let out in the back seat. Why our parents didn't just abandon us along the side of the road is a topic for another day....

I thought of that game when I saw these horse pillow canvases designed by NeedlePaint for a custom order.  I think they are charming.
http://designneedlepointkits.com/2012/08/07/horse-needlepoint-pillow-canvases/

Oh, there is a giraffe, too.  It's at a different site.  Never saw a giraffe in a field off the Interstate, though!
