Counted Canvaswork Delights

Fans of counted canvaswork, particularly pieces by Jim Wurth and Kurdy Biggs/Threedles, will want to check out the SBCANG website to see some of their work stitched by chapter members. I love seeing the various colors and the ways the Threedles chart was turned into ornaments instead of one big piece.

Frame Weight Alert

People who are looking for frame weight classes like the one Jim Wurth did several years back will be interested to hear that Chandail plans such a class with a bar that acts as a magnet as part of the kit.

Counting Under the Christmas Tree

Counted canvaswork admirers will enjoy seeing what Suky Lady has just finished--two Jim Wurth ornaments. These turn up on eBay occasionally (they aren't available anywhere else as Jim has retired from teaching) and are gorgeous!

I have heard hints that you can order these from Threadneedle Street in Palm Dessert, California but I don't know that for sure.  Anyone know?  The shop doesn't have an Internet presence but their phone number is 760-340-041.  (I hope that hasn't changed!)

Good News for Jim Wurth's Fans UPDATED

I am quoting Jim Wurth who posted this message on the NP Etc. Yahoo Group:

"Beginning Jan 2, all Jim Wurth designs (excluding teaching pieces) will be available from Threadneedle Street at ThreadSt@AOL.com. This includes individual ornaments from the Dodecagon series. Kits are available. Contact Marianne at the Street. She is taking advanced orders this week."

I believe Jim is talking about Threadneedle Street in Palm Desert, California, not the shop of the same name in Washington State.  I think there is a Threadneedle Street shop in Mississippi, too.  Yes, the one in Mississippi specializes in charted designs from Walter Anderson.  But the one I think that will sell Jim's charts is in Palm Desert.  Their phone number used to be 760-340-0411 but I don't know if this is still the right number.

Jim Wurth doesn't have a website but you can see his Dodecagon series on Pierrette's blog.  She took the original cyberclass on these magnificent pieces and posted photos of the finished designs.

Study in Gold and Silver

Shining Needle Society (SNS) has announce a new cyberclass starting May 20 which will run through the end of August. The teacher is Jim Wurth and the class project which you see above is called “Study in Gold and Silver.” Let me quote the class description from the SNS announcement--

“The timeless elegance of white, gold and silver is realized in this 18X 7 inch geometric panel that juxtaposes traditional stitches with modern classics. Silk, rayon and metallic threads are used to create dramatic focal points (Chilly Hollow Stitch, Pinwheel Mistake Stitch and double-thread Jessica) that are centered amid a variety of straight, diagonal, cross, eyelet, tied and padded stitches. This class is designed to nudge the intermediate stitcher into more advanced territory. (Note: Although not absolutely required, some prior knowledge of Hilton-type stitches will prove useful to the student.)”

I understand that the class will cost $94 for a 75-page spiral bound instruction booklet with four color photos and the teaching fee. Students will provide their own threads, canvas and stitching supplies. Provision has been made for prior students of this class to audit the online version and participate in the online support group for $10. Please note if you sign up after May 2, the fee goes up $5. To enroll, please email Jim directly at jwurth@msn.com and put "SNS Gold & Silver" in the subject line of your email. Please let Jim know which method of participation you would like --instruction booklet or audit--(again, only available to those who have previously taken this class). Jim will email you an invoice that can be paid via check. By the way, all that blurry stuff in the photo--bet that's the shine of the metallic threads. You know how metallics don't photograph well.
