Wooden Coffins for Needlework

I just stumbled across these wooden DIY Halloween coffins for needlework on Etsy.

It looks like these have to be assembled.  If it were me, I'd stain or paint them before adding needlework, too.  There's no guarantee that thicker needlepoint designs will fit in the opening, either.  I wasn't able to find out the opening size.  These are really made to be used with her cross stitch patterns I think, but it's still worth an experiment if you are in Mad Scientist Mode!

Need a Coffin? UPDATED

Thanks to Jane B. I have a source for the little wooden coffins that Shelly Tribbey had at Destination Dallas 2017.  The coffins were to use in finishing these darling little Halloween pieces—the witch, Dracula, Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein.  (Put your mouse cursor over the photos to see details.)

But Shelly ran out of the coffins and apparently didn't plan to get more.  So Jane did a little digging and discovered them at American Science & Surplus, item #94459P1, for $2.95 each plus shipping and handling. They need to be painted as they are unfinished pine, but they've arrived and Jane B. says they are perfect!

UPDATE:  Shelly Tribbey herself remarked on Needlepoint Nation that these little wooden coffins vary a bit in size.  She suggests you make a paper template to take to the store to check each coffin for the right one for your Halloween figure.

In Stitches Does Halloween

In Stitches is the counted thread shop (with knitting and needlepoint) close to the entrance to Woodlawn Plantation. They offer a lot of counted and cross stitch patterns but they also have needlepoint, so I wasn't totally surprised when their Halloween blog posting featured two wonderful needlepoint patterns.  First there's Shelly Tribbey's skeleton in a top hat, perfect for the Halloween dandy!  I think finishing this in a little coffin would be perfect!

The photo of the Quilted Jack o' Lantern (fourth from the bottom) is a counted canvaswork classic from Pat Timpanaro of Neon Flamingo.  I hope this chart is still available.  It's a fun sampler of stitches for the fan of counted work.
