The Three Way Design

One thing I always find fascinating is seeing the same design finished differently, so I was thrilled when Ada Hayden of Eye Candy posted photos of her famous "Candy Land Christmas Trees" design finished as a pillow, framed, and as a standup.

Design Steps

If you thought coming up with a needlepoint design was quick, here's how Mopsey does it--

For those who don't have an Instagram account, here is the process in Mopsey's own words:

🎨I first doodle in my sketchbook, which may sit there for an hour or may sit for up to a year.
🖥️Once I am ready to tackle the design, I roughly draft it on the computer in a charting software.
🌀From there, I paint the canvas to make sure it will work when stitched, then tweak it on the computer, then back to painting, then back to the computer... you get the deal.
🌈Once I'm set on the design, I work through color theory to make sure I'm bringing the design to life. I finalize a painted master and *voila* a new needlepoint design is born!

How I Make Stitch Choices (Orna Willis)

Orna Willis talks about how she categorizes stitch choices and explains how she chose the stitches for one of her bird designs in this interesting article on her blog.

By the way, Orna is going to offer a new class about her design choices.  You will stitch along as Orna designs a new piece.  This class is meant to offer insights into what she does and how.  If you are curious about design or you just want to stitch a geometric with a color genius, this class is for you.  Details on her website.

Debbie at the Last Minute

Debbie at Painted Pony posted a bit about her design process and in the process, shows off her newest angel (a crazy quilt angel) for the January TNNA show.

Her angels don't look like last minute designs, do they?

Evolution of a Design

Kimberly is creating a new piece, which apparently will be called "Dream Glimpse."  It is fascinating to see how Kimberly's drawings start to take on a life of their own as a painted canvas.  Often she stitches a piece as well, which adds yet another dimension.

Kimberly is also working on Blossom.

Listening to Kids

Pepita's experience designing to a child's requirements is both a charming story and a great idea.
