Leather Needle Books

I just discovered the leather needle books that Stitch by Stitch offers. They come in brown or black leather with wool felt "pages" inside to insert your needles.

They aren't cheap but they are perfect for storing special needles, like those expensive handmade Japanese embroidery needles. If you travel a lot with your stitching, these also might be something you would want.

Berlin Embroidery Teaches Needle Cases and French Link Book Binding Stitch

If you've always wanted to create your own felt needle book, Tanja Berlin of Berlin Embroidery now offers a PDF file tutorial on French Link book binding stitch to make it easy to sew your needle book pages together in a decorative stitch.

Tanja sells little needle case kits with full instructions and includes the French Link book binding tutorial for free if you buy one of them.  Currently there are two needle cases available, both using needlepoint canvas for the front and back.  You can buy the designs, threads, instructions and canvas from Tanja but will have to source two thick pieces of felt and ribbon for assembly yourself.  You will also need Craft Tacky Glue.

If you have a needle case design in mind already, you can just order the instructions for the French Link book binding stitch to assemble your needle case for $7.88 USD. (Tanja is in Canada.)

The Southwestern Needlebook: Saguaro Sunrise

The Sun City Stitcher is working on a needle book design on Congress cloth from a class she took from Sandie Cormaci-Boles.  It's shaping up nicely.  I do like the Southwestern theme on the front.

The finishing technique from Marian Scoular is new to me.

You can see what it will look like when finished here.

Needle Books for Christmas

Sue Trevor's Folksy shop has some stunning machine embroidered items you might want to browse.

The needle cases are beautiful!  Just remember Sue's in the UK so allow a little extra shipping time.

Pincushions and Needle Books

I love wool felt needle books, so I was very interested when Lorraine at Colour Complements highlighted those that Fiberluscious makes and sells on Etsy.

Right now Jill's Etsy store only has pincushions for sale, but they come in five different styles and they are all charming—and all filled with emery to keep your needles sharp and rust free.

I hope by the time this publishes there will be needle books for sale again.  I just love needle books with pages of real wool felt to keep your needles in!

Harikuyo 2015 UPDATED AGAIN

Today's the Japanese festival of Harikuyo which honors our needles. Susan has special plans to celebrate.

UPDATE:  Stay tuned for what Susan has planned!  I'll add the link once it goes live.
http://plays-with-needles.blogspot.com/2015/02/the-gift-of-harikuyo.html

Me, I am too exhausted from celebrating NP Nation's Fourth Birthday to start making a new needle book.  Instead I will do what I always do on February 8th.  I will take all my old needles out of the pill bottle where I keep them, wrap them in aluminum foil, and then use pretty wrapping paper and ribbons to wrap the foil packet. Then I will ceremoniously put them in the trash.

Where would we be without our needles that have served us so well?  Thank you!

UPDATE #2:  Carol-Anne had an amazing needle adventure in Japan.  You will enjoy this.
