What Stitch is Best for Sky?

Quail Run has posted a short essay on good stitches for skies on their Facebook page.

For those who don't have Facebook accounts, they recommend tent stitches for smooth skies: Gobelin  (either upright or slanted), Mosaic or Cashmere for textured skies; and French knots or satin stitch for clouds.

Tips for Shading Painted Canvases

Needlepoint for Fun's newest online tip article lays out two ways to shade areas on your canvas, particularly skies and animal fur.
http://www.needlepoint-for-fun.com/how-to-shade-needlepoint.htm

The article links to ANG's website where there is another shading article to help you understand color blending. I expect with this help you can do some pretty neat shading on your own on that canvas that has you puzzled. Have fun learning to master shading!

Sky Stitches

If you don't happen to own a copy of the Stitch Landscape book and you need sky stitches, check this month's postings by Mary Legallet on her Whimsical Stitch blog. She is posting about her favorite sky stitches.

Ripples and Ruth (A Review)

This week's posting at Sheena's Sweet Stitches has two various of an interesting sky/water stitch plus a review of Ruth Schmuff's fourth Stitches book.

Another friend just bought Stitches Volume Four and says it has lots of interesting stitches in it. I'm waiting for the iOS app myself (a little bird told me it might be out in June) as that's a better format for me, but it comes in two sizes for the shopper who either travels a lot or who wants a full sized book for visibility.

Snow and More Snow UPDATED

No, there's not snow on the ground here in Chilly Hollow (although I expect to see plenty of that in January and February).   Peggy at NeedlePaint.com is stitching stockings the company designed for her twin nephews and needed snow stitches for each.  She cleverly came up with two different kinds of snow using two different stitches.  I thought you'd like to see her solutions to the snow problem.

UPDATE:  Peggy also needs sky stitches.  Stay tuned for more!

What's Your Sky Like?

Bargello Background on Night Rider
Steph is thinking about sky stitches this morning. She's got quite a few on display, too.
http://stephsstitching.blogspot.com/2013/02/sky-stitches.html

What you see above is MY favorite sky stitch--a Bargello stitch done in one ply of sage green silk mixed with a strand of Glints from Bijoux.  The canvas is Night Rider from the Old Crows series by Leigh Designs.  What's your favorite?
