Morning Garden Stars

Ridgewood has posted their latest version of Stars for the New Millennium. It is called Morning Garden, although I am not sure if that's the overdyed thread the colors were taken from or whether that is what the stitcher calls it. Very pretty, regardless, especially in the depths of winter.

Liz's Fabulous Border Reminded Me

This morning I visited Liz Morrow's blog and discovered she is blending elements from Tony Minieri's Stars for the New Millennium with elements from Pam Gardner's From Molehill to Mountain to create a border for her From Molehill interpretation since both finished pieces will live in the same room. Liz is making them harmonious by creating a border where there was none before. If you are curious, here is how she is going about it.

Seeing this reminded me that I needed to update the Counted Canvaswork Designers tab with a mention of Pam's masterpiece, so I did.   If you aren't familiar with Pam's design, you can check it out further there.  I've also added Betty Chen Louis, Joan Gantt and a few other designers to the counted list, just in case you are interested.  M. reminded me that designers and teachers whose work is only available via eBay belong on the list, even if it is just to alert folks to the fact that they created wondrous things worthy of belonging in our stashes.

If you are a shop carrying the From Molehill to Mountain chart book, please let me know.  I couldn't find anyone who had it except Amazon affiliates and I'd prefer a link to a needlepoint shop if possible.  I did find some nice photos, though.

Have You Pinned Yet? UPDATED

The latest Internet rage is Pinterest, a way to collect and "pin" images in collections.  Needlepoint.com has started a nice little collection here.  As far as I know, this is the only shop participating but I've heard of cross stitch designers and fellow stitchers who are doing so.  It's by invitation only right now, but the invites are there for the asking.

They Finished Stars!

Tony Minieri's Stars for the New Millennium is one of the two iconic counted canvaswork pieces of the 20th Century. Jan and Liz have worked their way though the project and posted their final photos on their blogs. Make sure you check out Jan's inventive border touch that will avoid an expensive mat cut to fit the pointed shapes in the borders.

The Monthly Stars Report

Liz and Jan have posted updates on their Stars for the New Millennium designs. They are working together but in very different colors, which makes for fascinating viewing. The colors they each choose make each Stars block different because the colors emphasize different parts of the pattern.  Here is Jan's Deborah Kerr block.

And here is Liz's finished Deborah Kerr.  I just noticed that they are not doing the tiny stars where the block sashing meet but are doing the borders as they work the blocks.  I did just the opposite--all my little sashing corner stars were done first thing but I'm not going to do the outside borders until last.  Everyone works differently, but I found the borders too confusing to work in a stop and start again fashion.  That threw my count off.

News for the Counted Crowd UPDATED AGAIN

Due to the simple fact that counting from 1 to 10 is pretty much impossible for me when I'm tired, I'm not much of a counted canvaswork person.   I have a lot of friends who do nothing else, though, and occasionally I throw them a bone in the shape of counted thread and canvas news.  Today's one of those days.
