If you haven't been stitching a long time or you aren't a Needlepoint Now subscriber you may not have seen Denise's wonderful interpretation of Sandra Gilmore's 9/11 design based on an iconic photograph from that day.

If you own the September-October 2011 issue of NP Now, you can read more about the design there. I don't know if Denise used Susan Portra's stitch guide for her version of the piece or not.

Bullion Knot Hair

Needle Nicely
Needle Nicely just stitched an angel on congress cloth for a customer who requested bullion knot hair. The shop used two plies of DMC cotton. It looks terrific but apparently the DMC wasn't as easy to work with in bullions as Watercolours. It's been my experience that the right thread for bullions makes them a lot easier to work. I like wools especially well for this sort of thing.

Speaking of bullion knots reminds me I just discovered that Gay Ann Roger's booklet on creating bullions is still on sale on her website for $13 including shipping. Since her big yearly sale is coming up, I'd advise you buy this now if you are interested.

Peeking Through the Window at Bedecked and Beaddazzled UPDATED

Sheena James has been to visit Bedecked and Baaddazzled again and took her camera. There are lots of wonderful things to see. Some are classes, some are clubs and some are just fun designs from Ruth's stable of artists she represents. Besides, Sheena has a marvelous flying pumpkin graphic to watch and a calendar counting down the days to Halloween. It's always fun to visit with Sheena.

UPDATE: Ruth posted about this as well. Wish we'd all been there to watch these two creative souls in action!

Margaret Murton, the Queen of Autumn

I've always had a soft spot for the faded organic style of Margaret Murton. I've even stitched one of her Ehrman pillows in faded teal and golden browns. It's a lovely thing that I should put out upstairs where the dogs won't mistake it for a soft chew toy. If you are not familiar with her work, you should view the newest video interview Ehrman has posted on their website which showcases her work.

Many of my favorites are no longer available as kits but a select group are on sale this autumn to celebrate Margaret and her fascination with the faded joys of autumn in the country.

Gay Ann Rogers Sale
Labels:

sales
It's that time of year again--October--which brings us Gay Ann Roger's sale of her charts. She only sells her work once a year (with occasional mini sales at Valentine's Day or other times of the year when she happens to have new designs ready) and no one knows exactly which samplers, geometric designs or new pieces will appear. As Gay Ann explains on her blog, she will start a little story on her website on Thursday, October 10, that leads up to the official sale starting next Wednesday, October 16.
http://gayannrogers.blogspot.com/2013/10/my-needlework-sale-busiest-time-of-my.html
If you are into counted canvaswork, you'll want to keep an eye on the sales. Gay Ann runs out of charts and when they are gone, they are GONE, particularly during the weekend mini sale, so if you are interested in some of her work, act now or you will have to wait and see if the chart of your dreams shows up for sale in October of 2014.
